  1. Been on the injury list so to speak this last 6 weeks and Ive done three and on my fourth. I'll say something they are keeping me sane as well ans driving me insane (at times). Anyone says what a lovely blue sky to me and I'll go mad. ps you need a hammer and a stanley knife and you can do any jigsaw.
  2. Thanks all. That sounds about right the one being opposite. She (my mam) said both sides of the road. Its unusual for two pubs to have pretty much the same name so close.
  3. Can anyone help me with a pub query? My mam 85 born in St Anns keeps going back into the past and she mentioned as an underage drinker (1940's) she went in Pubs around town. The last two she talked about were the Dog and Partridge (which I go in now and again) and another. One known as the 'Dirty Dog' which they gave a wide berth to. Does anyone know where it was or if it had its name changed over the years?

  5. Last time I was measured for a suit was Taylders in Hucknall. I was amused at the palava they went through but the suit was spot on and expensive at 10/- a week for an eternity
  6. Did anyone have Throwing Arrows ? home made with a piece of thin branch about 16 inch long , slits in the end for the flights (made from Corn Flake Box), a notch three parts down the shaft and a piece of string half hitched to catapult it skyward. We would find lost throwing arras in the winter when all the grass had died off
  7. Where I work we used to send out Glasses for Tetley Carlsberg and the pallets of Tetley glasses had about 3 yards of string round them as well as polythene. Over 3 years I carefully cut the lengths of string and balled them up for tying my yearly runner bean sticks. My workmates took the mickey but Ive got string in me shed to last me out. Just saying , I'm not a string nerd or owt

  11. I was a young Mod then turned Skinhead, loved the clothes styles but deep down I wanted to be a Rocker like my big cousins the Forbes in St Annes. I got hooked on Motown, Reggae and Soul being the Skin but I I still liked 60's Pop and at home my dad weaned me on Johnny Cash . When the trends blended or finished I went back into Country Music. Levis have seen me through all of these fazes and still do
  12. As kids when we used to have a fire this time of year we would go in the local gardens nick some taters and bake them in the open fire. They came out black and too hot to handle but we ate most part of them. Not like the ones done in the oven at home with a bit of Lurpack on. Why did they always taste better back then ? (the oven ones)

My beetroot was eaten when sowed in the ground, any idea whats eating them as small shoots ? Ive done some in pots and planted out under a netting so less than normal but at least theyve survived. Rest of stuff pretty slow. Love to know what had my beetroot last year and some this season. Ive put slug pellets down but they still went.
