At Trent bridge the school colours were red and black - as for uniform you wore one if your family could afford it. I remember I went to school in a sports jacket white shirt and school tie - I seem to remember that the girls seemed to all do OK for uniform but us boys looked like the dead end kids at times!!! The houses were named after old boys killed in the first world war and I think they died in the school when it was being used as a hospital. The house names were Bosworth, Lake, Laws and Pearson - Peter

Talking about Corona - Blondie #2692 - do you remember Beer at home means Davenports? Mum and Dad had some every Friday. One Friday they were having a big row when he looked in through the front door saying cheerfully "Davenports" - "s**t" shouted Mum. Yes people call it that but I am supposed to say Davenports he replied. It stopped the row Mum and Dad fell about laughing.

Yes I often wonder about those people who sold everything they owned and gave the money away - what did they do the next day

Yes I was in Superdrug and saw a woman with no shoes on - she thought she was in Boots!!! Round here in the chip shop if I ask for a fritter they just look at me I have to say you call them scallops. Best wishes Peter

I remember so many of these so called events. I recall one when the followers sold up everything they had a they all went up a mountain to wait - I do not know if they are still up there waiting. In the papers it says if there was an asteroid we should all start to be able to see it in the sky now.

Like mgread I also used to go to the three penny rush at the Windsor on a Saturday and if there were to many kids they used to come round shouting "Two on a Seat" I also remember the Boulevard at Hyson green didn't give tickets but metal discs instead. The Orion on Alfreton Road we were watching a film and we could see the crossing lights blinking on and off outside

I am a great Royalist and must say I fear what the alternative would be. Just look what our MPs have done to the House of Lords there are now more in there than ever before and some are no more than cronies that have bought their way in. As has been said HM is now 89 getting on for 90 and is still working away for our good and I reckon she is worth and earns every penny.

There is a great second hand book shop in Cromford near Matlock Bath - books piled everywhere

Yes she has been a magnificent head of state for us all. She has had to contend with changes not only in her own household but world wide too and boy has she done it with so much ease and grace. Her rock Prince Phil;ip should not be over looked either. May she go on for very many years to come.

Another thing I remember was student teachers who would come into school from time to time for experience and we quickly found out they could not used the cane or strap. I remember one poor chap we made his life hell in a good humoured sort of way - well good humoured for us anyway. One day another chap came in with him and sat at the back of the class and we knew he was being assessed and what a change there was. Everyone sat up straight and was very attentive and asked lots of questions and oh so very polite. We even detected a tiny tear in his eye!!!

I went to Trent Bridge in the 50s and all the teachers used the cane or strap when they had to but have to say they were strict but fair. I remember Joe Currah - who taught French caned the whole class because we were making a lot of noise and only 2 people owned up but if you had a problem you went to Joe and he would always sort it out for you. We werein many ways as bad as kids of today but the difference was we could take our punishment and accepted it, even your Mums and Dads . I went into a café and had a tea and scone - £2.50 The scone arrived and I ask where the butter was - they gave me one of those small packs and asked for another £1.25n and wanted me to pay another £1.50 for a small pot of jam!!!!

Didn't fit her - besides we all took at vote and 30% wanted tea 20% coffee - then 100% didn't bother as we went out to watch the spitfire flying around!!!

Having worked as a Postman over the years you could see the numbers of Postcards being sent - particularly from the UK - dropping off. When we went away we would always send postcards. It is such a shame when things like that stop --- o my God a Spitfire just flown over. Peter

Just been to a flea market and bought two boxes of old postcards (about 250 per box) for a fiver I will soon sit down in peace and quiet go through them all. They are arranged in sections too eg sport, seaside etc

Off Boverill Street was Cambridge Street and we lived at number 4 for a few years - there were two shops on either corner with Bovrill street - one was a papershop and the other general stores were my Mum had a 'book' paid every pay day. Further up was another shop who had one of those drinks making machines on the counter and I remember it used to taste awful!!! There was also a chap who used to have several basins and do haircuts on a Saturday. Peter

Yes I think it is - well not a problem but certainly something to ponder. I too used to love going through our old photos but they sadly are disappearing over to computers etd. \it is OK if you have one and know how to use them. Also the old postcards of places you knew and visited how they looked year before that . I sometimes look at postcards and the people on them and wonder who they are and what happed to them. Peter
