  1. They’re all round here in the Trent Valley. Never seen so many cyclists!
  2. Well all prepared for them this morning but they never showed up. I guess the cloud base was too low for a proper performance. I doubt they will be back as it takes time to set up the necessary arrangements.
  3. Check the website BK. I went years ago and it was EH then. Nearby Hardwick Hall is NT.
  4. Sorry to be pedantic BK but Bolsover Castle is English Heritage, not National Trust.
  5. The Red Arrows are due to perform two display rehearsals at RAF Syerston tomorrow at 0915 and 1130. Looking at the weather forecast it’s due to turn wet with 100% cloud cover and a massive drop in temperature so I don’t know if it will go ahead. They do have an alternative low level display for such conditions so they may do that. This is becoming an annual event as there was a display last year. I have a ringside seat from home!
  6. The only advantage of a deck chair is the convenience of it folding flat for storage. The idea of it supporting the human body in comfort was not part of the design brief.
  7. ‘Aberdeen on a flag day’. It’s a long time since I’ve heard that delightful expression, although I remember as a child, my Scottish uncle not being amused!
  8. They’re all queuing for chips at Skeggie, no doubt berating Dominic Cummings or saying ‘if he can do it so can I, except of course that he kept his distance. I foresee another lock down.
  9. Back in the 80’s when wireless telephone technology kicked off it was the first generation of such technology and was known as 1g. Over the years there have been ongoing improvements and as the technology improved it moved up a generation so we have Ig, 2g, 3g, 4g and now we are reaching the 5th generation of technological development i.e 5g. It’s purely a description of the current level of the technology of mobile communications.
  10. 5g is just the 5th generation of cellular technology moving up from 4g, 3g etc. 6g will be the next in sequence and so on.
  11. An electrician who sometimes did work for my company was doing a job for my mother in law. She asked him what I was like to work for. He said 'he's a bastard but at least he's a fair bastard'. That's the nicest thing anyone has ever said about me!
  12. Where do you draw a line though between greed and ambition? I've always been ambitious, wanting to better myself. It's been achieved through hard work and long hours. I don't think I've been greedy along the way.
  13. Way back in the days before motorways we used to set off for our holidays in Cornwall at around 11at night. Our driver, my uncle, who had a coal business, had just finished a hard day’s work so he was glad when he stopped for a kip on Dartmoor in the early hours of the morning. He had one of the very early gas fired portable stoves so we woke up to the smell of bacon frying. I think today, with much better roads, it will take just as long to get there because of the increased traffic volume.
  14. When at at work I often got up at 5am to be the other side of London by eight. Little Chef breakfast on the way down and back at the factory by lunchtime. No speed cameras on the A1 in those days and you could get a bat on!
  15. All that recipe does is to conceal the taste and smell of the tripe. Why not leave it out altogether and bin it?
  16. I think the idea is to protect others from your possible infection not vice versa. I'm happy to wear one when I'm out if that's the protocol where I am.
  17. There’s another conspiracy theory going round that the very few aircraft vapour trails we can see are due to the Government spraying us with disinfectant.
  18. I read it was recommended by one of Glastonbury’s town councils’ advisory committee. Bunch of weirdos down there!
  19. I’ve just found it on CD rom - but who needs CD rom when you can just download it like you’ve just done? I’ve got to listen to it all the way through now. That evokes memories of my youth!
  20. I bought the Bruebeck LP ‘Time Out’ which contains this track many years ago. There’s some great music on it. I was always into modern jazz.
  21. Try ukmeds.co.uk. Local firm. I bought a pack as a a contingency. They have a selection.
  22. I was just warming to Brew's tripe recipe................!
  23. Tripe is disgusting. I can't see any merit in it whatsoever. My parents used to eulogise over it pre war when they went to Tom Sanderson's tripe shop after the cinema. I saw some at the butcher's one Saturday and brought it home for lunch. Nobody would touch it!
  24. Exactly - nobody’s ever heard of them!
  25. Well if we put the Lib Dems in next time we'll get proportional representation which means Parliament will never agree on anything. It won't happen of course because they don't command popular appeal. Better with the system we've got although it can never be perfect. At least Col's got something to moan about for the next four years. Not good for the health though. Better to have a happy and cheerful disposition!
