  1. I was on my iPad,, too, nonna - didn't check if the same message was on the PC. I thought, wouldn't it be terrible if no-one could ever get on the site ever again!!! To lose contact with so many of you would be dreadful. It would be like losing a chunk of my life....
  2. About 10 minutes ago after I'd posted a couple of things on the forum, a message came up saying the server had moved to another website and I was supposed to click to sort it out (not the exact words but something like that). I didn't do anything, in fact I switched off. When I came on again, it was sorted but a couple of my posts had disappeared. Did anyone else see this message?
  3. My reply to your post, FLY, has disappeared! I said that I hoped you'd find your relative but I wouldn't know where to start looking for information. Good luck
  4. I get lots of my clothes from Charity Shops and always enjoy doing the rounds when I'm in Ely. Paul sometimes does car boots when the weather is good but he is selling, not buying - we are still shifting excess 'stuff' from when we downsized (houses, not bodies!!). You can actually walk into the garage now, apparently, instead of climbing over things! I wouldn't know as that's Paul's place. (He is allowed in the bungalow as well!) We do also donate quite a lot to our local Emmaus Centre. I keep trying to persuade myself to give away a lot of books that I KNOW I will never read anymore
  5. I feel so sad for you, letsavagoo although I haven't lost a sibling, only my parents. They were well advanced in years and lived happily with us for their last few years so I was able to accept their deaths without overwhelming grief. It was good that you had become closer to your sister in the preceding years - I expect she appreciated that too - and I'm really sorry that you still feel such anger towards your brother-in-law. I really hope this will lessen over time as it can only hurt and eat away at you. It won't affect the object of your anger. I know this is easy for me to say but
  6. Ayup, sorry, we seem to be talking at cross-purposes. I know the Atlantic rift is a fact - I was referring to the sea bed getting wider/deeper thereby causing the sea level to drop!
  7. Never heard these theories before! Do you think we've discovered something important ? ...... probably not, as the experts on plate tectonics would have already thought of it I suppose
  8. Just had a strange thought ..... if the mountains are still being pushed UP, won't that make the Indian Ocean/Pacific deeper, thus allowing the warmed oceans more room so they won't rise so much? Or have I got the mechanics of plate movements wrong?
  9. notty ash, I believe you are right that Everest is still being pushed upwards, so maybe that will keep the height the same as it is now, as the sea level rises! Whatever..... Everest is high and in the realms of probability I'm 99.9999999... % sure I'll never climb it!
  10. The height of Everest in metres may be calculated to be lower if sea level rises, but it would still be the same height as always when you start from the foothills or whatever they're called!!
  11. I wrote the following poem a few years ago when I was reminiscing about the holidays I'd had as a child. The two places referred to in the poem are Chapel St Leonards, where we went for our annual holidays until I was 10, and Llangwnadl in North Wales. In Chapel, we stayed on the same site each year on Sea Bank Road and it was OUR place, as was the village. I used to feel it was waiting for us each year.... A few other notes: My Mum used to say I had 'donkey feet' because I never wore shoes all holiday, even when walking on the road to the amusements in the village. The stone slab
  12. I've been singing it on and off all day - in my head. They don't write songs like that nowadays (probably a good thing?)
  13. So sorry about your young dog's accident with the chain. Have you reported it to the manufacturer? Pleased that not too much damage was done...
  14. Keep your mind on your driving, keep your hands on the wheel and keep your snoopy (?) eyes on the road ahead.
  15. Never heard that one before, Stephen. Sounds disgusting...
  16. Carni, the picture is interesting but a bit weird (I think). I like the seascapes and pretty landscapes
  17. Hope you'll soon feel better Carni, and back to your old self - don't mean 'old' old btw....
  18. I'm going to get there before Carni! "Hugging and a kissing with Fred"
  19. Carni, do you click on the picture where it says: "Like what you see?" If you do 'like' them, they are supposed to put similar pictures on for you.
  20. Catfan, so sorry about the diagnosis although, as you said, it didn't come as a huge surprise to you. I know you have deep inner resources to help you to cope with whatever happens, so just keep smiling and being the great person you are. Even through difficulties in our lives, God remains good!
  21. Hello Brian, hope you'll enjoy posting on Nottstalgia.....
  22. Don't see many birds at all in our garden cos the cats are always stalking them - we have a lot of undergrowth round the edges of the garden for them to hide in. Son bought us a lovely bird table and it just gets used as a scratching post for the cats!
  23. Col, yes I believe it is an inflamed Eustachian tube as it's only in one ear and on one side of my throat. I think it's a leftover virus from my being ill a couple of weeks ago. It's a pain (literally)

    Johan Cruyff

Benjamin, why is my name written on a topic about a footballer? I just noticed it while I was browsing...
  25. I've now got an intermittent stabbing pain my right ear and a sore throat on the same side. I think it's following on the heels of the viral thingy I've had over the last couple of weeks. I thought I'd recovered from that completely - just shows how wrong I was! A cocktail of Ibuprofen and Paracetamol seems to do the trick. I don't take them until the pain actually comes back in case it's got better, but that means I have half an hour of discomfort until the painkillers start working. It woke me up at 2am this morning...
