  1. I regularly attend the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and the Red Arrows pre-race display is always one of the highlights of the weekend.
  2. I too am an atheist, but I live by the creed of "Do unto others as you would wish done to yourself". If we all followed that the world would be a far better place. Any road up, as the title of this topic is "What are you reading," currently it is Classic Bus, issue 156, which has a very good article about Nottingham's trolleybuses.
  3. Just to avoid any confusion, 39ATO is a Leyland Titan PD2/40 with MCW "Orion" bodywork. Bloody good photo.
  4. Ben, no I left Nottingham just before my 12th birthday. I have done all my reffing since I have lived in Northampton. Closest I get to Nottingham is Melton Town and Holwell Sports, both of whom play in the United Counties League
  5. Ben, it is generally accepted that as long as the ball passes through the vertical plane, rather than having to go right behind the players head then the throw in is deemed to be legal. Who wants to see numerous throw ins being retaken, rather than just getting on with the game.
  6. Ben, Radford Red, as an active referee, I can answer your questions regarding the Laws of Association Football. Indirect free kicks are only awarded for technical offences, such as offside, impeding an opponent's progress with out making contact with an opponent (any contact results in a direct free kick), dangerous play, such as a high foot (again when no contact is made with the opponent). All penal offences are punished by direct free kicks. Regarding the kick off, the June 2016 FIFA IAB law changes, remove the need for the ball to be played forward at a kick off.
  7. Make it legal to machine gun middle lane hoggers on motorways
  8. Roy Marshall did indeed take the photo, alas he passed away 2/3 years ago. I believe that he bequeathed his huge photo collection to be made available to publishers for use in future books.
  9. Mick, thanks for the info. Given the peak time frequency of the 31s and 50s, my April 1975 timetable shows every three and three quarter minutes, it would have been hard not to be following the service bus
  10. Nowt wrong with being a lefty, you just need to be fighting for the right causes, not crusading for some minority interest group just to make a name for yourself.
  11. Jerusalem always meks the hairs on the back of mi neck stand up. More patriotic for this Englishman than God Save the Queen.
  12. If you are driving you should know never to leave your vehicle overhanging rail tracks (of any sort). It ain't bleddy rocket science.
  13. It was Madness to let this close. (I'll get mi coat)
  14. Here in Northampton, they wear hi-viz jackets with Community Service written on the back.
  15. Dad brought me upon Deja Vu, so just had to have this as my ring tone. A great motto for the way I live my life and how I've brought my two up.
  16. Teach Your Children - Crosby, Stiles, Nash and Young
  17. Just Googled for more details on The Ragman's Daughter and given that it was filmed in 1972, there is a chance (albeit small) that my Dad could be driving the 21 as he was on that rota at the time.
  18. There used to be a couple of Tardis (is the plural Tardi) on Angel Row just before Market Street. I remember being scared witless one Saturday evening in the early 1970s, when as usual we had spent the day at Nan's house on Bracebridge Drive, and had watched Dr Who before catching the 60 into town. This particular episode had the mannequins that came to life and zapped people by dropping their hands down and a gun/laser protruding from the wrist. I was terrified all the way into town as I knew that the Tardis (Tardi) would be there when we got off the bus, and there would be all of the mannequ
  19. Tastes just like cherry cola, C O L A cola... (sing up the NS choir)
  20. Ben, I hope it wasn't the Lola that The Kinks sang about, or did you "drink champagne and dance all night, under electric candlelight..."
  21. Dad, started as a conductor on the trolleybuses from Bulwell depot, so that would have been on 42, 43, and 44. When he passed as a driver, he was sent to Bilborough depot, which at that time had a mixture of Daimler Fleetlines, AEC Regent IIIs and AEC Regent Vs. I think at the time Bilborough operated the following routes, 13, 16, 16A, 30, 32, 53, 55, 56, 60, 62 & 74
  22. They wouldn't be the ex. Northampton ones then, as they were automatics.
  23. Den, those would have been Renault S56s from Northampton Transport, hideous bloody things that the drivers were glad to see the back of.
