  1. Right then, lets get this one sorted. It doesn't matter what you put down, if it's done correctly weeds will not grow UP from the surface, they are deposited from our feathered friends and windblown seeds. However, no matter what you put down, weeds, moss etc will be there at some time or other. So choose your finish, do it right and just be prepared to do a bit of annual cleaning.
  2. Carni, just sit at the back of the plane, not in the history of aviation has a plane reversed into a mountain.
  3. Hi Frank and welcome to site, unfortunately i don't think that you will get a reply from Ian as he has left the site, its a shame really as he contributed so much interesting stuff. But perhaps you can take over where he left off, i look forward to reading your tales.
  4. When I were young (many years ago) i thought spaghetti was canned worms. And you can still get that!! So from a youngsters point of view, yes.
  5. If you can give it a trial for say one year as Enigma says, then go for it Carni, what you got to lose?. But I didn't think you could do that, might be wrong, and will stand to be corrected.
  6. Christmas cards are going by email this year! Or it might be cheaper by DHL.
  7. I think it depends on your circumstances, when I first moved to Norfolk, anglian water sent me a card in pie chart form showing how much water you used, so many cups of coffee, shower, flushes of the toilet etc. When I worked it out, i would have paid more by having a meter. Perhaps things have changed now, but I still don't have a meter simply because i don't want to worry about things like can I afford to have a shower or wash the car.
  8. 2nd referendum it is then !!
  9. Almost nervous about asking this question, but here goes. I was wondering if it was the same Larvin family that used to live on..... Alfred st central?. Can only remember Pat Larvin as she used to work for my father, but if I remember correctly, they were a large family.
  10. Is that shorthand for, my mistake sorry ?
  11. Thanks once again Clifton, that's how I remember it. Don't suppose the map could be wrong though could it ?
  12. Sorry to be the one to tell you this Mary but, Alfred (not Alford!) St central went up from commercial square to woodborough rd. Alfred st North went up from woodborough rd to Huntingdon st/ Mansfield rd, case not closed. Just ask Mr G oogle where Clark's cycle shop was or Bob's spares was!!
  13. Could have been made for 'Mini-Mix' loads !!
  14. That's the thing though, when your younger you only need a six pack, but when we get older we need more, so hence the barrel !!.
  15. Like you said Alan, usually full of 'crumpet', but how times change. The first time I ever went in it seemed to be a great place, but the last time I went Near the place there were 'bouncers'on the door.So gave it a miss.
  16. I packed up smoking about six years ago but went onto the vape, never craved for a fag since and like you staverton girl couldn't see the point of flavoured juice. But now, i mix my own flavour and can't get enough of it!!. I'm more addicted to vaping than I ever was smoking but at least it's an affordable pleasure!!
  17. Up until reading this, i thought it was unique that someone could do that. When I worked at the citb in Norfolk, a work colleague would do exactly the same. Come Friday down the pub and a packet of fags, same on Saturday and Sunday. Come Monday and for the rest of the week, never bothered, how do people do that? When I smoked, the longest i could go without a fag was when I was asleep!!
  18. Ah, but did you ever get burgled whilst away ?.
  19. Correct BK, the trolley wires used to finished at Trent bridge end of the embankment, the other trolley wires were at the halfpenny bridge end of the embankment.
  20. If you look very hard, you can see it just behind the 2nd knol from the left !!
  21. Not splitting hairs, but if every article you read about it, refers to it as a castle and not a mansion who are we to argue? Why wasn't if renamed, after the fire Nottingham hall/abbey/house or something. If your house burnt down, they would build another house, theoretically!
  22. Please define a castle, i know it probably doesn't mean the same today, but years ago it was, "an English man's home is his castle" I would take that as a castle is what you felt secure in!!
  23. There is more mass in a square than other shapes of the same dimension, bigger is better most of the time!!
  24. Just had a conflab with Mr g oogle, and even he says it's a castle, as well as a ducal mansion.
