Ashley! Yer Radged!
-
Ashley, another name to test your memory from Blackburns - my cousin Leslie Palmer who would just have come out of his apprenticeship in 1962. He was there for quite a few years but I cannot remember when he left.
-
Ashley, did you know Ken Henstock from B&S? He worked there from 1968. They would have been on London Road then and I was also given a job there in 1968. When I decided to stop on for the 5th year instead, they told me to come back in a year. I ended up going to the Coop as an apprentice electrician.

Ashley, take a look at this link. I think it's close to the kind of thing you are looking for. When you get to the first photo, click on "Older" at the top right and go through several more photos http://www.flickr.com/photos/gwoodward/3231818373/in/photostream/

Ashley, Never heard of such a church. St Faiths on Collygate Road still there ( not in its original form ) as is St saviours-still used as a church. I cant recall any other churches in the old Meadows. Kind regards Tony

The posts didn't go astray, they just got shunted back in the thread. I answered them at the time, and I think I got 50% correct. Go back to Post #150 to see my answers and Post #156 to see Ashley's reply.

Ashley, I am sorry to mention this again on the forum but the wagon works was W Rigley & Sons and not Wrigley. The old station building was used as a club house for I think an Artisans Golf Club who were not allowed to use the main club house. You could see them crossing the road with bags of clubs. The signal box at the station was also in use presumably to allow access to the wagon works, it would also be a block post between Bestwood Junction and Leen Valley Junction. There were no trains on this line on Sundays.
-
To Ashley's quiz..... First one I'm not sure; second is Leen Valley Junction; third is along Leen Valley line going towards Daybrook; fourth is somewhere in Bulwell?; fifth is Suburban line?; last one is Wilford GC bridge over the Trent.

Yeh, then bring it over to me, and I'll pin-stripe it for you Ashley.

Fosset & Thorne / Radio Trent Ads / Chris Ashley
Beefsteak replied to mick2me's topic in 80's Nottingham
Mick , do you want to split this to a Chris (And Margaret) Ashley appreciation society page? -
Agree, Chris Ashley's show was very entertaining. Shame it ended as soon as it did.

Fosset & Thorne / Radio Trent Ads / Chris Ashley
Christo200 replied to mick2me's topic in 80's Nottingham
Apologies for replying to a very old subject line but I have a few bits of information for the record for the record... Terry Thorne left Fossitt and Thorne and set up TT Tyres and Exhausts in Cinderhill Road, Bulwell. He also advertised this on the radio, trying quite comically to emphasise the TT bit because most people thought he was still advertising Fossitt and Thorne. He would have been better off paying an agency to do the ads. Someone else calling themselves 'the driving force behind Fossitt and Thorne" took over the Fossitt advertising. I recall Terry Thorne was sent to prison fo -
Ashley, Sherwood tram/bus depot, was hit by a bomb dropped from a passing German Zeppelin during WW1. Maybe the reason for a siren.
-
Ashley, Pretty sure that the old RoT police station (circa 50s) had a siren on the roof.
-
Ashley, I know it sounds daft but I'm pretty sure there was one on a large pole attatched to the lock keepers lodge at Radcliffe weir ! I can remember me and my mate talking about it when we were fishing down there once. It was probably placed there as it would carry along the Trent to the surounding areas,

Heart of the Midlands - Who did you see there?
Trevor S replied to piggy and babs's topic in 60's Nottingham
Always thought Lamcote Coaches (or Motors back in the 50s-60s) got its name from the Lamcote House and Farm, encompassing most of that end of RoT in the 20s-30s. Most of Lamcote Farm was later developed as the Canadian Estate for RCAF personnel from Langar and their families. Lamcote Manor was owned by the Earl of Manvers - hence the Manvers Arms where Ashley enjoys a drink. Mainly a petrol station and workshop back in the 50s, Lamcote Motors sold Cleveland Petrol. Had 1 or 2 buses but nothing on a big scale. A good friend of mine used to work there after school and on the weekends -
The post from Ashley (#35) brought back memories of my visits to the Log Cabin in the 60's. skypilot mentions the 'rustic furniture' made out of tree branches (#37) but, apart from the stage being opposite to the entrance door, I can't remember the interior. I saw a few groups play and also Barry St. Ives who is mentioned on other topics on Nottstalgia. It was a popular place in those days.

Travel insurance renewal, (Off to Spain again soon to visit with Mr and Mrs Chris Ashley, who's officially retired again by the way) last year it cost me £11.49p for 4 of us , via money supermarket.com (Good cover too) this year to renew with the same people it was £32.56p!!! nearly a 3 fold increase !!!!! I could understand if we'd made a claim . I shopped around and eventually managed to get it down to 12 and a half quid, for the same standard of cover. Go figure !
-
Ashley, I don't remember the name but will ask a friend who was there at that time. I worked there from 1967 til 1975

Hi Mick, the PM problem is at Ashley's end; (in the nicest possible sense of course).
-
Which end was the PM problem? I hope that yourself and Ashley can make tomorrows meet up
-
Ashley, tried to PM you - regarding Christmas Greetings - but unable to. Anyway, I hope that you are in good health and that you have: 'A Merry Christmas and a Good New Year'. Christine X

Not just you Ashley, I had the same problem. It looked like they were interesting, but difficult to tell I've played around with them a bit. Try again. http://i954.photobuc...55Highbury1.jpg http://i954.photobuc...55Highbury2.jpg http://i954.photobuc...55Highbury3.jpg
