Caroline 23
Anyone know much historic information on Woolpack Lane in Nottingham? My grandma's mother lived there.
Cliff Ton 10,479
This is it so it might've been one of these houses.
.... 23
Seem to remember there was a small printshop on Woolpack Lane. Might have disappeared in the 1970s.
carni 10,094
I Worked at City Uniform on Woolpack Lane in 1966. I left there to get married and leave Nottingham, so never actually saw that road again, until we started coming to the Nottstalgia meetups and stayed in the "Ibis Hotel, Fletchergate" from where we started exploring the area. Weather my memory is failing, I don't know but I can't remember those houses. The pictures show how very old the buildings were. I would be interested as well to know when they were demolished, or did I walk past them 1964 to 66?
Cliff Ton 10,479
There were a few surviving old buildings on the bowling alley side of Woolpack Lane at least until the early 80s, on the left where the fencing is. I think they were demolished when the Arena and Ice place were built. And there are a couple of surviving old buildings on the other side (looking towards Hockley). Guest
On the upper part of Lincoln Street, there was a row of houses, around the corner from the BT building- a few resided in them up to the 70's. Are they still in existence?
Cliff Ton 10,479
Surprisingly, yes. And with a BT van to prove it.

TBI 2,351
I remember there was a twichell from Woolpack Lane to Goose Gate, came out near to Gee Dee.
Cliff Ton 10,479
I remember that because it was where we walked once my dad had parked on Woolpack Lane. There are actually two cut-throughs from Woolpack to Goose Gate, and they both have names. One is Wing Walk (on the left - the Gee Dee one) and the other is Angel Alley (right).
katyjay 5,091
Angel Alley appears to be in your first black and white picture, Cliff Ton.
Cliff Ton 10,479
And it's just occurred to me why it's called Angel Alley. It goes behind the Old Angel pub. So..... So those cars are parked starting where the red arrow is.
DJBrenton 738
Funnily enough, I just noticed the map you posted on the Old Milton's Head thread. I notice Angel Alley doesn't go all the way through at that time.
TBI 2,351
I may be wrong, but I thought the buildings with an X over them were entrances to alleys or courtyards. Perhaps where there was a second storey above them?
Cliff Ton 10,479
I agree. It signifies an archway or covered path going into a yard. There are quite a few others even just on that map. This kind of thing.
Bubblewrap 3,815
In Nottingham city centre there were hundreds

Joyaa 0
I'm new to the forum, and hope this is the correct place to put my question. I am trying to decipher the name of an alley on an 1841 census image. The other names on the same page are Woolpack Lane and Fountain Place. Any ideas? Grateful for your thoughts!
