Terry Sadler 27
Death just announced of Scottish actor Sir Sean Connery aged 90. A fine actor. R.I.P.
Jill Sparrow 10,388
The only James Bond worth talking about, as far as I'm concerned. Made some good films and not a bad innings.
philmayfield 6,240
Roger Moore was my favourite. There were rumours that he lived in Notts at one time. East Bridgford perhaps?
Jill Sparrow 10,388
I believe his eyebrows won a scholarship to RADA.
jonab 1,644
Roger Moore used to live in the grounds around Newstead Abbey when he was married to Dorothy Squires. Their raucous relationship was well known to their neighbours, one of whom was Geoff Wakefield of Wakefield's Chemists.
philmayfield 6,240
Didn’t Brian May use to live thereabouts as well?
jonab 1,644
Don't know about that, after my time in Nottingham. Brian May did run a pub for a time with his wife, Anita Dobson (Ange from Eastenders) in Chiddingfold, Surrey when I lived there some 35+ years ago
LizzieM 9,531
Sean Connery has lived at Lyford Cay in Nassau, Bahamas for many years. A very upmarket gated community. He used to frequent a restaurant that we ate in quite often when we had a house along the road from Lyford years ago. Unfortunately we never did spot him, he was the best Bond. Oztalgian 3,371
The end of the film click clacks around the take up spool and the projector lamp now grows ever dimmer. Farewell to a wonderful actor and the original and only true 007.
DJ360 6,751
Connery was the best Bond. A very good actor in many other films too. Looking back...the Roger Moore films were the worst. That was when the franchise descended into a parody of itself. Daniel Craig is the best since Connery.

HSR 286
Wasn't the first Bond Bob Holness (Sp), it was a pub quiz chestnut in the eighties! Wasn't a Bond film fan, hence my favourite was Moore, the Croc's & tennis in the Rickshaw were classic. Connery obviously had a lot more presence, wasn't he in Hell Drivers? Loved that as a child. Beekay 5,236
HSR, your right, Bob Holness was the first J.B. I believe it was for a radio play, (somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.) Hell Drivers was Sean Connery in minor role. The lead was Stanley Baker, supported by Patrick Mcgoohan, William Hartnell and many others. Do you want a copy?
Oztalgian 3,371
Barry Nelson was the first James Bond in a 1954 TV special Casino Royal. Bob Holness became the second actor to portray James Bond in a radio adaptation of Moonraker for the South African Broadcasting Corporation. Its amazing what sticks in your mind after twelve years of regularly attending quiz nights, it is quite a common question and turns up every so often and still catches many people out. 1

Cliff Ton 10,530
in all the reports I've read, the most surprising thing is that as a young man he was a very good footballer and Matt Busby offered him a contract at Man Utd.

Beekay 5,236
No apology necessary Oz, thank you. As for Bond themes, never much cared for them. The longer they've gone on,the more far fetched they've become. Too daft to laugh at.
Stuart.C 497
The Theme from Live and Let Die (Paul Mcartney + ) sticks in my memory,, but only because my youngest Son used to watch the film over and over and over and over again. I ended watching it a few times.

LizzieM 9,531
John Barry, who composed 11 of the Bond themes, was a great composer in my opinion. We saw him at a Charity event at the Royal Albert Hall and felt very privileged to be there, it was a wonderful evening involving lots of great famous entertainers. He was married for a little while to Jane Birkin, of the Nottingham lace manufacturers family. So there’s the Nottingham connection .......
Oztalgian 3,371
Right on LizzieM, his harmonica based main theme from Midnight Cowboy is so atmospheric and he also wrote my favourite Bond theme, You Only Live Twice. One of the all time great songwriters.

HSR 286
Love chancing my arm with my memory, Think there was another Connery film, featured Sid James and the boxer Freddie Mills. Anybody recall this? Really good film if i remember.. Apologies, in advance if my wires are crossed!
