  1. Same here, Michael. The very thought of eating it now......
  2. My Uncle moved into a house in Nottingham with his mum and siblings in 1933. He was still living in the same house when he died in 2002 so 69 years. He married in 1951 and his wife is still in that same house, so 65 years for her
  3. I don't live there anymore but I get a feeling of excitement when I go for a visit or even pass through it on the M1 on the way to somewhere else. It just feels more like home than anywhere else
  4. My Great Grandparents lived on St Pauls Avenue for years, but a bit before your time - they both died in the 1920's!
  5. My Mum was from Sneinton and my Dad from Basford. Mum's fathers family were originally from Hasland, Derbys, but moved to the Farnsfield/Caunton area. My Great Grandfather on that side married a lady from Nairn. Have traced my Dad's side to Staffs- various places around Stoke. They moved to Nottm in the 1880's
  6. When would she have been born, approx? Do you know the names of any of her siblings?
  7. Did your Dad serve with them, perhaps, or may have come from a friend/relation who did
  8. The Buffs are the East Kent Regiment and "Steady the Buffs" is apparently their motto
  9. I use both sites and find Ancestry the easiest to use. FindMyPast is good for Electoral Rolls, pre WW1 Army records and some parish records. Also, of course, they are the only site to have the 1939 Register
  10. Good news for my Grandad's regular haunt!
  11. I always puzzled over it as I DIDN'T know what thought did.....
  12. Only just heard this and couldn't believe it. A big hero of mine in my teenage years and later. Very sad
  13. What was the occupation of John and Eliz fathers on the marriage cert? What was John's occupation on the marriage cert? Who were the witnesses?
  14. There's an 1875 marriage in Nottm of a John Lowe to possibly an Elizabeth Marson in Dec q 1875. Is this the right marriage? Do you have age of John and Eliz at the time of their marriage? Have you found both of them pre 1871?
  15. Do you remember my Auntie and Uncle, Ken and Flo Greaves - their children were Kay and Gordon, who were born 1930's /40's who lived in Frinton Rd?
  16. There are some non-conformist baptism records on Ancestry but no Turneys. Did they marry? Marriage certs should at least give the fathers name - well, if they married after 1837. Have you checked the Family search and the Free Reg websites`? There are some Notts baptisms, too, on the FindmyPast website. Nottm newspapers for some the period are also online. Did any of them leave wills, which may have mentioned family members
  17. It's good news, isn't it Dave? Mind you they will no doubt appeal which hopefully will fail
  18. That's brilliant, Margie!! It all came flooding back, thanks to you
  19. No, Benjamin - me Dad taught it to me!
  20. Does anyone remember all of the "stages" of snobs - the wooden cubes game? There were various things, from 1-12?? and the only ones I can remember are laying eggs and nine flies, although can't remember what you had to do
  21. I wouldn't bother with the Forces War Records site - they have very little original material. You need to search for his service records on either Ancestry or Find My Past, but bear in mind that lots were destroyed so they may not have survived
