  1. AfferGorritt, the archis on site sift through everything, the soils are then stored in soil bunds around the site, the overburden is then scraped over using an excavator, if anything shows, the machine is moved away and the archis move in with their little trowels and brushes, no stone unturned to coin a phrase, Archis are a very expensive and if they find anything as well as charging the earth (literally ) they can stop the job putting us all at risk of losing our jobs or being put on short time, but planning regulations say we must have them before we start a new site or new phase of workin
  2. Oh dear what a shame to see how the place has ended it's life, although I never enjoyed one single day there it's still a shame to see that era of my life gone the way it has Rog
  3. Last Christmas eve I sat on Princes street Edinburgh with some homeless, I bought them hot sausage rolls and a hot chocolate drink, I don't know why I did that, it just seemed the right thing to do at the time, This year I will probably do the same Rog
  4. Not wanting to appear picky but archaeologists don't do the excavating and bulldozers are not used, we have the archis on our sites at least twice a year and we use our own excavators which take off the top soils first to expose any archaeology that may be there, after that the overburden is taken off in very shallow slivers until the archaeology no longer show Rog
  5. Mr Dyson has bought a lot of farm land in Lincolnshire of late, planning on doing a bit of farming, he's had all the ditches cleaned out and the spoil from that has gone into filling low spots in the fields to prevent flooding and loss of crops during the winter months, forward thinking is Mr Dyson Rog
  6. There was always a cartoon type advert in the NEP for Shipsides, drawn by a guy named Keith Armstrong, He signed his cartoons "KARM" Very nice chap, he was in the NEP a few years back for having a "pet" fox. I believe he lived in the Bestwood lodge area. Would be nice to see those cartoons again if anyone has a picture or copy of the NEP from the 60s/70's Rog

  15. Mattsdigs, while I agree with you to a point the majority of drivers are not staff car drivers or advance drivers, out here they are just stupid Lincolnshire idiots who think no one should be allowed on the road but them, in most cases they have a mobile phone stuck in one ear and a carrot in the other and very little to separate the two Rog
  16. I have to carry out our tip inspections weekly as part of the regulation 12 quarry regs, make sure they are stable and not likely to move,( A tip is any stored material that is above ground level) there was a large landslip somewhere in Derbyshire a few years back when a quarry silt tip decided to go walkabouts and it covered all the roads and most gardens in the village with silt (waste from the production of aggregates) got the quarry industry in a tiz that did so the HSE are a bit hot on tips and quite right too Rog
  17. I blame the likes of Clarkson,Hammond and May,have you seen the way they drive in their programs? cutting corners, driving close to those in front like Bilbraborn describes, pulling away from junctions and traffic lights like their ar$es are on fire. I like the program but it makes me cringe when the idiots on Lincolnshire roads try to emulate them Rog
  18. I think you'll find there were more industries than the mining industry that went to the wall under all different leaders, don't forget the Labour government closed more mines than the conservatives did and the unions played a big part in the closures too Rog
