  1. Has anyone heard from Pete (firbeck)? I know he was having trouble with his computer and also his Mother was having some health issues (hope she's ok) I know some of you have been in touch with him in the past via telephone and was just wondering if he was alright, Pete if you can see this post I hope you get back on line soon and start up some more of your transport posts Cheers Rog

Ashley, this is a very interesting post, unfortunately I can't add to it but I do remember most of the roads you mention, My aunt and uncle lived on Egypt road for many years, the company I work for has a concrete works near the gas holders and I think the scrap yard is still near the bridge, does anyone have a map of the era you talk of or is anything available from the book shop under the council house in the city? it would be good to piece all this info together to see how that part of the city developed. As said, go through Metheringham from the A15 over the rail crossing, about 1.5miles turn left to Martin opposite RAF Metheringham site, across Martin fen to the end, over Kirkstead bridge to Woodhall Spa, turn left for the Petwood or right for Thorpe camp or carry on passed Thorpe camp to the "T" junction turn left then first right to RAF Coningsby Rog
  4. Ayup Ian, just a quick one, Rose is running in the "Race for Life" tomorrow (Sunday) only a 10 k but,,,,wait for it,,,, It's held at RAF Waddington down the main runway, so I might just get some pictures other than the race, if you know what i mean? Rog

Just as a matter of interest the Lightening at Thorpe camp is in the process of being re painted in the colour scheme of No 111 squadron, so far the tail fin has been painted along with squadron markings and the spine along the back of the plane has been painted gloss black,don't know why yet but will ask the question, pictures to follow when complete. Can you remember an old TV advert for "Personna" razor blades? in the advert the guy would tell you that Personna blades lasted 5 times longer than xxxxx blades the name of the other blades being dubbed over with the word or sound "cuckoo" any way sent ex Ma in law to the Coop on Broxtowe lane for a packet of Cuckoo razor blades, the old dear in the coop said "no such thing" to which Ma in law replied " oh yes there is because they were advertised on TV last night" we had a laugh about that for ages bless her Rog

  16. Piggy and Babs, Quite right too, my dad was down Wollaton pit all that time (sadly both no longer with us) hard graft from what he told me, sometimes working in 18" coal seems.
