  1. Hello David B and welcome to the forum. You may remember my late Dad and his brothers as they were born and raised on ' Skippo' Circus during the late thirties, forties and fifties, John ( my Dad ) George ( being the oldest ) Frank and David ( being the youngest ) Gibbins....
  2. Totally agree meeowed....It's scandalous to think it has been so long since the vehicle ran into the building.
  3. I still have my Dennis the Menace fan club badge from the seventies. I can remember reading my Beano in bed scoffing tuffees at night time, happy days indeed.
  4. What a pile of sh#te....Moniz out and take ALL the team with you!!!!
  5. Cripes! Notts aint got started yet, thank goodness for half time.....
  6. Salford City v Notts in the FA cup 1st round tonight on BBC2 kick off 7:55......squeaky bum time, banana skin etc, etc.....C'mon you pies! Oh, and good luck to Forest against the Rams....let's make it a Nottingham double!!
  7. Thanks Cliff Ton. I remember touring Turney Brothers when I was at school in the late seventies, a short time before they closed. The one thing I will always remember is the smell! Also some of the processess involving preparing the pelts. There was one operation where a worker had to feed them through a machine to remove impurities by hand and noticing he had a finger missing from each hand. When we asked why the charge hand said it was normal that a worker would lose at least one finger.......no health and safety then!!!
  8. Well done Notts for your win yesterday, set's the the match on Friday up perfectly....
  9. What a small world benjamin! Yes, Maureen is indeed my Mum. I can just about remember one of Edie's brothers but, alas, can't remember his name.....
  10. #77 benjamin 1945. My Mum's maiden name was Larcombe. My Grandparents were Arthur and Hilda and my Mum's siblings are: Keith, Gwen, Susan and Lynn. My Aunty Lynn still lives in my Grandparents home though I haven't visited for many years. I spent many a happy day playing with my sister and cousins near bottom shops when we all visited on a Saturday afternoon, spending our threepenny bits given to us by our ' Aunty Edie ', my Grandmas next door neighbour....
  11. Thanks for the comparison Cliff Ton...my Grandparents lived on Andover Road. It's nice to see how the area looked when my Mum was a little girl, she was born in 1945, so it couldn't have looked vastly different...
  12. Hear, hear Blondie. We have lost a true great from the golden age. I was only watching ' The Quiet Man ' on Saturday afternoon ( one of my all time favourite films...) and was thinking how stunning she looked. If anyone can get hold of a copy read 'Tis Herself, her autobiography, it is a great Hollywood memoir...RIP Maureen.
  13. I went to get me cup of tea, the handle fell off, I picked up a hammer and the head fell off, I went to knock on my neighbours door and the knocker fell off.................I daren't go for a pee!!!
  14. Ne'er mind. But seriously, there are some awesome bridges in that article. They would definitley make me sweat if I crossed them. I get the shakes when I look through the slats of the suspension bridge over the Trent!!
  15. I've flown over Menai Bridge in an microlight, does that count? Loved every minute of it...
  16. What a landmark! Congratulations Mary, to you both...
  17. #13 Katyjay, the book is far better. I couldn't really get into the film. Some of the passages in the book are very harrowing, something that could never be transferred onto the screen.
  18. #4 Any chance of you putting it on Bubblewrap? I would sure like to see it as I'm very interested in the history of the area.
  19. #42....Don O'Riordans goal against Spurs in the 6th round of the FA cup at White Hart Lane in 1991 was a bit special too. It was a mystery why Gascoigne was still on the pitch to score his goal after he elbowed Paul Harding in the face leaving him with a black eye!
  20. Dear Mr Trew, Could you please buy our manager a striker who knows where the onion bag is for Christmas, Thanks.......Yours, in anticipation, Gibbo04
  21. Went in that building a few years ago when it was still a tea rooms. It has the only other walled garden in Nottingham along with Bromley House. I don't know what it's like now....
  22. Wish I had a gold Double Leopard ( about six shillings ) from Edward III reign.....very rare and very valuable. One was sold at auction in 2006 for £460,000!!
  23. I'm not that bleady owd Bubblewrap, now, where did I put those gold thrysmas ( look it up!! )
  24. Found an old threepenny bit in a box in mine! Just shows how long we've been hoarding things......
