  1. Tried to access the Forum on my laptop instead of the Kindle and I am being asked to sign in but the problem is that I can't remember the password so unable to sign in. Help please from anyone out there !! What do I do ?
  2. Margie, that's always worried me too, but also never sure who was wearing the hat!
  3. The houses on Tealby Terrace have an unusual roof line, can't say that I can recall seeing anything similar anywhere else. Wonder if it was peculiar to just those or were there other terraces dahn Medders with the same construction?
  4. We had a mangle like that one Jill as did my Aunt who lived next door in the same yard. Auntie`s mangle had no cover over the cog wheels and being of an inquisitive nature I poked my hand into them tearing the top off the middle finger of my right hand, luckily it was able to be stitched back together!
  5. Thanks Cliff, I have obviously hit "quote" by mistake and as I mainly use a Kindle don't have the use of a mouse, you know how little I know of technology!!
  6. Me anall Compo, and why do I keep getting this quote box every time I try to post?
  7. Margie, spot on with your colours, could have been our first house when we were married except for the carpet, couldn't afford one but the through Lounge diner had dark brown Marley tiles which required me to polish them every Saturday morning. I did build a stone fireplace though, trendy coloured stone with dark stained mantel and shelves!
  8. I reckon it's a privet hawkmoth by the purple and white stripes.
  9. Thanks for that Carni, I did worry that the trees may have gone, but so sad that the farm itself had been left to rot. Must have been about 1971 that we last went past there.
  10. Whilst looking through old threads I came across a reference from 2007 to this farm, and remembered that during our many rides and drives through the countryside, we would often pass Vimy Ridge Farm and always thought it an odd name for a farm near to Kinoulton, and would often speculate as to why it had been named such. For those of us who weren't on the Forum 10 years ago, it may be of interest to some as to the origin, the story in the thread is no longer shown. The owner of the farm during WW 1 was Sir Jesse Hind whose son, Lt Francis Hinde, was killed at the battle of Vimy Ridge on T
  11. Blimey Lizzie, you are really going through some procedures with an amazingly phlegmatic and stoical attitude to it all. As with everyone else here I wish you the best for your rapid and successful return to full health. Your wonderfully positive attitude will definitely get you there! Keep smiling and I hope that your husband arrives with some suitably tempting goodies.
  12. Welcome to the Forum Derek, don't know whether there are any members who were serving Officers but we have our own Security personnel on site and you will find memories of Tug Wilson on here. Good luck with your research and keep us informed of your progress.
  13. Apologies for mis-stating the pub, should have said The New Inn on Union Rd, and as mentioned before, seventh from the left is my great-grandma, Maria Holmes, living at the time on Comyn Street with my great aunt Annie Proctor.
  14. Standing in front of the chara, third from the left is my grandma Stapleton, and sixth from the left my Gran Brealey, paternal and maternal grans respectively. I reckon it's a days outing from The Union Inn on Union Rd, grandma Stapleton living on Gt Freeman St, gran Brealey living on Curzon St.
  15. Trying to reply in the"ailments" thread but keep getting thrown back to my post this am in the birthday greetings. I'll try later today when I've returned from hospital visit.
  16. Thanks for all the good wishes, you really are a grand lot, but that goes without saying because that's what Nottstalgians are all about int`it! Pleased to say that the op has gone really well as hoped so fingers crossed that her recovery goes just as well.
  17. Up early today as I have to take Nicky into St James in Leeds for 7 am admission to the ward. Hoping and praying for a good outcome for the op.
  18. So pleased to hear that you're doing well and have had a really good experience with the system Lizzie. It does seem to be that the Trust area where you are treated makes a vast difference to the care received, I had nothing but praise for the way Mrs C was treated and cared for in Newcastle, so different from this area.
  19. Thanks for all your comments, we don't feel quite so alone with your good wishes. Nicky `phoned yesterday and was told by the hospital that she hadn't heard because the doctor's secretary was on holiday!! There was a letter in the post confirming her admission to the ward on Monday. I find it reassuring that the NHS have such faith in the postal system that a letter posted on Friday would definitely be delivered the next day. It's somewhat disconcerting that the system relies on just one person to send a letter or make contact for something so vital especially after so many delays and def
  20. Unfortunately the NHS today seem to have a different definition of "URGENT" which to them, in my family's experience, appears to mean that they promise to put you on a list and will contact you at some undetermined time in the future in order to defer yet another appointment. It is now over 4 months since my daughter's cancer was discovered to have returned yet she is still waiting for the date for admission to undergo surgery, hopefully we will hear today ? All that we do know for certain is that the original diagnosis and treatment in 2014 was perhaps totally incorrect resulting in her prese
  21. I came across this site only a couple of weeks ago and am amazed at the amount and depth of info given about my Grandfather and Great Uncle which was unknown to us and wonder if our archivists are aware as to how the details were collated and from which sources as I would not have thought that CWGC would have all the details of siblings, parents, addresses etc that are given.
  22. Margie, sent you a pm but you know how inept I am with technology so hope that I've managed it!
  23. Phil, re #35, it's a good job that N/S never used your village pub for the meets if none of those activities were tolerated!
  24. The Cremorne brings back happy memories of the early 50`s when the family would catch the trackless from Commercial Square on St Anns Well Road all the way to the terminus at the Embankment then have a drink outside before having a walk by the Trent then getting the trackless back home. In those days that was a real treat for me eclipsed only by the rare trip on a summer weekend of catching a "red bus" to Burton Joyce with a bottle of pop at The Nelson (?) and then half an hour on the nearby rec with swings, rocking horse and witches hat. Being an afficianado of cream cakes from Sanderson

Tremendous result for Notts, thought it was all over bar the shouting after 25 overs, but unbelievable knock by Alex Hales with support from Chris Read brought the silverware back to Trent Bridge, and should be back in the top flight next season.
