  1. My youngest little chick is 35 years old today and yes it seems like yesterday when he burst into this World to bring us lots of joy, love, pride and plenty of stress along the way!
  2. Someone RobL and I know still has one
  3. Surely you call it SNORBANS now you're a resident Brian? My son lived there for 2 or 3 years, in an apartment above the Multiyork shop on London Road.
  4. I've just been googling, as you do on a fine Sunday morning. I've found a few pictures of a similar contraption on ''Sideways Bike - Original'. It's at the bottom of the page, along with newspaper headlines about it. There's a chap riding one, he's wearing a denim shirt, and the bike has full size wheels. Not sure if it's the same one because as I said earlier, he whizzed past us we didn't get a real good look (but the man looked very much like the one in the photo. Sorry, I don't know how to put links on here.
  5. I think Nottingham has got rental bikes around the city now. I've hired them in Miami Beach a few times, over there they're called Deco Bikes and there are racks everywhere and as you say Rog, a debit or credit card is used to pay. Bilboro-lad has a point regarding helmets though. In Florida and maybe throughout the States it's not the law to wear a helmet even on a motorcycle so it never even crossed our minds about wearing a cycle helmet, mind you I have usually ridden on the pavement !!
  6. Now then Rog (Plantfit) have you ever come across a bicycle that is ridden sidesaddle? We saw a guy riding one the other week while we were in Miami. If I hadn't been so amazed at what I'd seen I might have had time to take a photo of him, he was certainly enjoying the attention he was getting from everyone he rode past.
  7. A counter-balance for something or other?
  8. Carni, sorry I'm a bit late here wishing you all the best but I truly hope that the docs can fix your problem very soon as it must be scary for you every time it happens. Best wishes girl and congratulations on reaching another milestone!
  9. In my experience it will normally take 3 months from a buyer wanting your home to completion. Having said that, our experience this past month in Miami was quite different, we only had two weeks to get out. Our move from Hertfordshire up here to Nottingham 10 years was stressful too. The buyers were renting and wanted to move in in 6 weeks. We were downsizing considerably so had 2 skips in the driveway and a bonfire burning for 2 weeks. We also had to find a house in Nottingham that we could move into in that short space of time. We were driving up here and looking at around 8 houses in
  10. # 14, Darkazana we have the odd problem on laptop like you. I think the problem is the cursor, for some reason that does have it's own agenda!
  11. Good to see you back for another dose fch782c, hope you're continuing to improve healthwise
  12. Would that be David Pleat and Alan Birchenall or just coincidence with surnames?
  13. Re posts 12 and 13 .... Years ago families remained in close proximity of one another, plus folk didn't live as long as we are doing nowadays. My maternal grandmother lived in the Meadows and had a son and 2 daughters living on the same street, with the other two children living within 5 miles. She was able to remain in her home until she went into hospital where she passed away aged 73, which back in 1963 seemed a good old age. My paternal grandmother lived with her spinster sister for 30 years after becoming a widow. When her sister passed away my grandmother moved in with her daughter,
  14. I breast-fed my two urchins for their first six months. I only once remember feeding one of them in a public place. I was with a few other mums from a baby group and we were having a picnic in a park. One or two babes were starting to yell because they were hungry, mine included, so we decided to throw embarrassment to the wind and feed the babies. I don't think it was really acceptable back in the 70s and I seem to remember we were all a little nervous about feeding the little ones in public. I think if I'd been on my own I would have either gone home or at least sat in the car to feed.
  15. The supplier of machines to All Saints was Scott Reynolds of a company called Unique Finds Ltd in Maidstone.
  16. Thousands of vintage sewing machines have been used for very unusual window displays by the All Saints clothing stores around the World. They have all been supplied by one person ...... but need to google who that is but I doubt he's from Nottingham!
  17. I thought he was really good in 'Pennies From Heaven' and was stunned to hear on the TV news tonight that the series was broadcast in 1978. Ha! Seems like yesterday ......
  18. Compo # 19, my goodness, you were a brave little lad, walking through that tunnel. My mates and I would only dare go about 20 yards in, it was scary and damp. There were so many great and natural playgrounds for us kids in the 50s and 60s, so many lovely open spaces to play without our parents freaking out if we were home a little late.
  19. Did you sit on the roof as well Firbeck?
  20. We've had a base for work / holiday home in Miami for the past few years ........ suppose I'm risking some members saying 'Oh get you' or even worse but I won't worry! As my husband has now decided that he's had enough of all the travelling that was necessary with his work we decided to sell the place. Put it on the market in December and had 3 offers but for various reasons the deals fell through so we decided to go over for the whole of April for a working holiday. In the first two weeks of the month we had several viewings (and offers) which made it difficult to relax as we had to be al
  21. Belated Happy Birthday Carni and Littlebro. I have an excuse, I wasn't reminded by anyone, plus I've had no internet connection for a couple of days. Back in the UK again, so sorry I didn't bring some sunshine back with me.
  22. Welcome to Nottstalgia Notts2Oz, hope you enjoy the forum.
  23. No Babs, I don't remember John Street at all.
  24. I lived on Norman Villas until I was 8 years old.
  25. I never ever use a mixer, just a fork to beat the batter, just like my Mum used to do. (She didn't have a mixer!). I don't bother with salt, as she did ...... no reason for that at all, just don't bother. And also don't bother with a drop of water because we always have 1% milk anyway, whereas in the 'olden days' you didn't have a choice with yer milk. I wouldn't say I'm a good cook at all but I'm proud of my Yorkshires, lol.
