  1. A political correctness matter!! I was working on the hydraulic brakes on a late 20s Sunbeam that had been returned to the UK from Africa. I had to replace the master and slave cylinders. It occurred to me that these days my description of work completed might not be well received by the owner. Any suggestions for a politically correct description of these parts?
  2. I seldom eat meat because I do not like it particularly (a bacon sarnie is tempting) More importantly the survival of the world and all its wonders needs us to move towards a plant based diet. I try to make my very small contribution to that movement. It has to happen!
  3. Many thanks for this. Far more than we knew. It seems a little daunting which is a shame when someone has a good idea!
  4. My brother is needing some advice on something he has made that he would like to patent. Anyone on here knowledgeable about patents and patenting?
  5. I can send any of you some of the £16 billion I got from the Nigerian prince whose dying father had forgotten to pass on his bank details. Just send me you Bank details and password and Bob's your uncle; or your stepmother.
  6. Oz we could have a Notstalgian ascent of Kinder open to those who would like to meet up and do a walk(ramble). Hows about up Jaggers Clough ?
  7. I recall welding up lots of Heralds in the late 60s early 70s . For some reason the outriggers carrying the body were very susceptible to rot. But I liked them because they were quite stylish and easily maintained for the reasons already given.
  8. Other than tin worm I thought they were pretty reliable with the A series engine etc. They must have been one of the very first hatch backs.
  9. Agreed !! Funny as its one of my warm up tunes when I can be bothered to practice...............
  10. It comes to us all ........................ Hoping that we are not going to be surrounded by inappropriate expressions of grief.
  11. My three (on this day and at this time * ) would have to be: Concrete and Clay. Unit 4 +2 Unchained Melody. Righteous Bros. Earth Angel. The Penguins * My three bestest are going to change according to all kinds of variables and moods. These 3 are likely to be in my 20 most favourite songs/tunes but there are so many others that are great and important to me for all kinds of reasons.
  12. Love walking as long as it is enjoyable countryside. I avoid all major roads and any that have heavy traffic. I wouldn't enjoy 20 miles , too far for what's left of me!! I am happier 8-12 miles and am looking forward to getting out again in Derbyshire and Lakes.
  13. Mary you followed best practice - still in place! Any disclosure should be referred on to the Designated Safeguarding Lead usually a member of the Leadership Team. These days it would be recommended that you keep your own record of who you told and what you told them.
  14. Sadly not a reliable site for cars registered before 1972.
  15. Woweeee! I was there ages before you 1959-65 but recall some of those names. Fr. Aquinas .....in fact when I started school most teachers were wearing habits some brothers some priests. anyway Aquinas was quite a nice bloke as I recall. Vic Taylor was a new master and taught English. I remember Carberry and Chamberlin. It was a very weird education when all said and done. We had brilliant music and drama with strong emphasis on creativity . All screwed up at a later date by the likes of Douglas. They were all happy to belt you either privately or publicly
  16. Very sad to hear. A great and memorable voice. Robert Hirst and the Big Taste!!! I really rated them and would always go to the Beachcomber when they played there. I do recall some excellent all nighters when they did several sets. I preferred RH+BT to The Family from Leicester ..........used to go and see them too.
  17. Interesting ! I have been a dedicated user of PCs at home and in a number of educational settings since the late 80s. More recently I grew increasingly irritable with the machinations of Google and Microsoft and looked at Apple. The result being to move to a Mac desktop and enjoy the relatively uncluttered use and access. At a price admittedly, but then I am no longer annoyed at frequent inconsequent messages and unhelpful adverts. When funds allow will be looking for an Apple laptop or iPad to replace my trusty and good Dell.
  18. Haggis tonight with neeps and tatties of course ! A virtual Burns night with like minded folk on Zoom. Bit of music and some poems followed by a dram or two of the finest single malt. "Fair fa your honest, sonsie face" Happy Burns night to all.
  19. Many thanks for your comments and kind thoughts/suggestions. I do now feel fully recovered and am (as well as I can tell) physically now back to where I was for example I can do a 7-8 mile walk and up the rate without breathing too heavily. I count myself lucky as I improved daily once under the care and guidance of Mrs. Siddha. Of course I have no idea what damage might have been done to bits of me I cannot test. Breathing exercises were very important and I followed the advice of this guy , Patrick Mckeown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiwrtgWQeDc&t=531s It works
  20. I had COVID late November and was taken to hospital. There for 6 days and then managed to persuade them to release me. My chest was XRayed and the result was described as follows "There is a very subtle hazy airspace opacification seen at the left perihilar region suggestive of inflammatory changes. Remaining lung fields clear" Not quite sure what all that means but it looks like there is a specialised language used by doctors when talking about lung XRays.
