  1. So long as there's an England you are correct 'catfan' but you are also British,and so long as theres a United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland this will continue,.............see i'm not just a pretty face ! lol.
  2. Yes there are but getting fewer by the year,ive always had a keen interest in Political Geography,which extends at the moment to the ex. Soviet Union states such as The Ukraine and Georgia plus the Baltic states and all the 'Stans'.I just find it all fascinating,

  4. Sad to say katyjay,when it comes to the status of N.Ireland and Ireland ((Eire) a large portion of the British public don't have a clue.I often hear and read people of the Republic refered to as British,and simply they are not.

Some of them Forest players bring back memories merthyr, Bob mckinlay kicked off a game for us when at school in 1956,new Peter Hindley when i lived in Peterboro,played with Henry Newton at schoolboy level,and Colin Hall saved me from a kicking at the 99 club circa 1970,..........happy days lol.

Even earlier memory than above was when i was 2 in 1947,we moved from my Grandma's on Leybourne drive to the next street on Bestwood estate Andover road,i was in my pushchair going down Hove road behind my Dad who was carrying a huge Radio,i even remember the mans name he bought it off Mr.Rimmington,and it must have been around the same time i recall my Uncle Bill hammering new lino down on the landing,brown squared pattern it was.

  10. got great family memories of 'The old peartree' pub FLY2,back in the 60s,sitting out the back among the actual Peartrees' with Granny and lots of long departed Uncles and Aunts,.......in the 80s a mate of mine used to keep it,Billy Wilson and his wife Pat,if i'm right another mates son runs it now Woody?
  11. Not far north Dave,used to go out with a girl from Kirkby and she called it a Ginnel,.............we spent alot of time 'up it'....lol.

Funny that Sue,a few weeks ago i was driving up Southwark st,Basford,and a woman crossed the rd in front of me with full set of 'Rollers' in and wearing Pyjamas and slippers,.....it was about 11am and she gave me a wave as she crossed,............i'd like to think she got home ok or recaptured very quickly.
  13. I'm the same with road maps Margie,well maps in general,when i was travelling around the country used to love studying the maps first.Ive never used a Sat-nav and never got lost either............good thing is you can buy road maps very cheap nowadays.

  22. #26 Scriv. ive been waiting for someone to say 'who wants their kids to work dahn pit' .I can understand that old community spirit and all that went with it,but what a God awful way for man to earn a living (and a fortune for the old owners) many members of my family and old School mates worked in the Pits,and i never envied them,when we left Sec.school in Bestwood it was almost expected we'd want to do it,...........not on your Nelly comrade.

I don't have a particular fav. in terms of music Genre' i like all sorts depending on mood,place and time,was never really into the heavier rock of the 70s,but on my recent holiday came across a band called 'Travelling band' who i could'nt get enough of,so went back to the bar they played in most nights,the wife could'nt believe i was 'rock n rolling' in me shorts till midnight (must have looked a bugger) did'nt even wear me Tie,...........nice to get home and put one on though, Even bought one of their 'T' shirts,which ive given to my youngest Son,like i say time and pla

Love to hear stories like that Rob,ive seen lots of similar incidents throughout my work (and out of work lol.) ive never been a fighter but when i was much younger and about 3 stone heavier i was very rarely bothered by anyone,but noticed in my 60s some would get a bit cheeky,.......just shows there's alot of cowards out there.,and love to see em get their cumupence',
