Broadly correct, there has always been room for most subjects, 'Owt about Nowt' has been there since the site's inception. This has gradually branched out into many different topics. There is room for all topics and subjects and if there is any moderation to be done, there is a person to do that called a Moderator.

The only pictures I used to visit in the Meadows was The Grove on Kirk White St. I remember one film about Bonfire Night, someone in a Guy Fawkes suit and mask getting stuck on the bonfire and going up in smoke. Don't know what they were doing showing that to little kids, gave me the bleddy heeby-jeebies for ages

Whilst I always thought No Regrets was a great song, I wasn't really a Walker Brothers fan. Back in the '70s, I was auditioning some pricey speakers in a hifi shop and one of the demo albums was Nite Flights. I went straight out and bought a copy, it was brilliant. I see some tracks are on youtube, check out 'The Electrician', it's certainly not like his early stuff. RIP Scott

As on the above map, the former Woodland Place would indeed be between British Heart and Habitat. It's nothing to do with Hurts Yard which is further up Long Row. No idea about the plaque though, if it's on the left as you look through it would be attached to the side of the former Habitat, presumably they would have had something to do with it, the brickwork looks relatively recent. It only goes up a short way to a dead end, perhaps access to the rear of those two shops. It stopped going right the way to Parliament St yonks ago.

Plenty of online help BK, and members on here who use it I'm sure could assist. Personally FB has limited appeal to me so I don't use it much.

Yes, the Cloth Hall and museum is well worth a visit, we get that way quite often. The thing I really like about Ypres and Flanders generally is how much the locals like us Brits. We've been told many times how Belgians even today, appreciate what we did for them during those awful times.

That's an interesting statement, AfferGorrit. For the purposes of clarity, could you be a little more specific with regard to the 'huge majority' you refer to. Approximately how many would you say? How have you come by this supposition? What do you mean by 'possible hidden agendas'?

Sometimes you have to laugh, don't you. As I said I'm ignorant of St Anns as was and looking to learn a bit more. Where was this Alford St then?

Sorry to butt into this, not being an old St Annswellian and all.... Ian's picture and subsequent comment are all correct, it's Alfred St Central, the post box in front of the Post Office, opposite Alison Rise, can be seen in the picture.

Our coal storage facility was also next to the outside toilet like most in the Meadows. It was referred to as the 'coal-house'. It really did seem ridiculously huge. It was converted into a bathroom/toilet and laundry utility and the outside toilet became the new coal-house, perfectly adequate. I remember we got our coal from Tricketts on Blackstone St. A really mucky job I liked as a kid, breaking down the large pieces into cobbles with this great big hatchet and then using a riddle thing to separate the slack. I couldn't have been more than about five or six.

Yes BK, I can actually remember the wires, they went past the end of our street. It would have been easier than going up Turney St and having to turn and go round the island at the top. Not just the 43 though, 41, 45 and 46.
