  1. Swe62, After you've copied it, go to the reply box you want on Nottstalgia and 'paste' it. On the iPad, this is done by holding your finger on the screen until a little circle appears showing the word paste. Tap 'paste' and your copied stuff will appear... On a laptop it's maybe different?
  2. I think you'd need more than a pretty good telescope to see the 126 km from the top of the Beacon (height 425m) to Bulwell ground level... (just checked on a horizon distance calculator).
  3. I use 'direct link ' when I use my iPad, but don't know if that's the right one to use. It works anyway!
  4. Welcome to Nottstalgia, Gagar. I see you live in a lovely part of the country. My older brother lives in Malvern, too. Sorry, I know nothing about the school you mention but possibly someone on here will do
  5. My dress was a mid to dark blue - the black and white photo doesn't really show that!
  6. So your cousin was a fairy!! My Brownie uniform was also a brown dress and a yellow tie which we had to fold and tie at the back like that. We had to wear a brown beret as well. i've posted a photo of me in my guide uniform previously but I'll repost it as it seems appropriate at this point.... I was 13
  7. It was a reef knot, Gem. Which 'six' were you in? When I first joined, I was an Imp, then later I was promoted to being a 'sizer' for the Fairies. In Guides I was a Robin, then I moved to a different group and was Patrol Leader of White Heather
  8. Happy birthday, Phil. Yes!!! You're older than me...... not many on here are
  9. I went to Brownies and then Guides one evening each week there from about 1950 until 1957. I remember playing 'kick the can' in the playground, and practising semaphore standing at one end of the corridor while someone else 'read' it at the other end. I went to Arno Vale Primary School
  10. An interesting post, Jonab (iPad keeps wanting to call you Jonah). Pleased you found somewhere suitable to work eventually...
  11. That was good, Chulla.... made me smile... it has just been pointed out to me that I wrote on the previous page that I was born in 1945. I should've written 1943.... I'm not trying to knock years off my age, honestly. My finger must have twitched!
  12. Gem, that's beautiful... it's made me quite emotional thinking of your mum delivering your son
  13. Gem, I bet that brought back the memories for your mum. I think it sounds nice giving birth in the same room you were born in!
  14. Brew, I had my first child under hypnosis in 1967... a wonderful experience. Made me chuckle when I heard fairly recently on TV of the 'new' idea of ' hypno-birth'.
  15. Carni, the doctors at the hospital thought that Paul's back rash was possibly something to do with the virus but they didn't seem too bothered about it so they didn't treat it with anything. When he recovered from the flu (or whatever it was) the rash disappeared..
  16. Carni, how strange.... I didn't know that Chris had a rash on his back when I posted yesterday. (Same as Paul had) If he gets chest pain or is breathless, he does need to be checked out at the hospital. These viruses can do very strange things. We will be thinking of you both xx
  17. I was born in a house on Hereford Road, Woodthorpe in 1945. Apparently, a doctor was there during/after my birth - I wonder how much my parents had to pay for this pre NHS...
  18. I had a new lens put into my left eye over 15 years ago as , like Jonab, I was nearly blind in that eye before the op. Afterwards it was like a miracle as my sight was wonderful again. And the procedure didn't hurt at all. Unfortunately, I now have macular degeneration so both eyes are now getting worse, but that is unrelated to the cataract problem I had. How has this thread moved on from model railways?
  19. Carni, I do hope Mr C will soon be better. There doesn't seem to be any specific treatment for this flu virus itself (or whatever it is) but any extra symptoms caused by the virus can sometimes respond to treatment. I think it's good that he's going to the doc tomorrow. I remember 10 months ago when Paul had a similar thing, he came out in a rash on his back, then started getting much more angina than usual and had to be monitored for 3 days in hospital. They seemed to think the virus had caused a chest infection which in turn compromised his heart. As soon as the chest infection was t
  20. FLY, thinking about you and hoping you'll soon feel a lot better
  21. I did get an appointment with the GP but she said it was maybe viral in which case antibiotics wouldn't help. She did give me a prescription for antibiotics but said to only take them if my ear got worse (therefore infected) It didn't, so I have an unopened prescription in my fridge!
  22. Carni, I did chuckle at the appropriate misspell of 'starring' as BD did a lot of 'staring'! It's not her fault but she did have very protruding eyes, poor love. Maybe she had hyperthyroidism - that sometimes happens with that.... On a positive note (I had to try very hard) I thought the discordant music was well thought out at appropriate times during the film.
  23. But Carni, you might like it..... don't be put off by our opinions x
  24. Paul and I watched the film this afternoon and weren't impressed with it. The acting was not very good and the storyline was very predictable, we thought. I like many old black and white films but this is one I would never bother to watch again. I hope you enjoyed it carni. Sorry, Chulla- I know you love it.... I really tried to see some good in it but failed
