  1. How old would your dad be now? That might show whether he or his siblings were in my year... I can't remember a lot of the boys I went to school with but there is another member of Nottstalgia (male) who was there at the same time as me who might... I used to go to ballet classes with a girl who lived on Melbury Road. She was called Marian. Some of the houses on the top of that road looked unusual - they had flat roofs and curved fronts, but they're not there anymore
  2. Did your dad go to Arno Vale school - if he did, he MAY have been there at the same time as me (my kids are about the same age as you)
  3. I expect that you, being a boy, would just have worn thick, warm socks to keep your toes warm?
  4. I used to wear a liberty bodice in Winter when I was at Primary School but also (horror of horrors) thick brown stockings which fastened on to it! I used to get bad chilblains in my toes so think this is why I had to wear them. I remember some of the other children calling me 'lady' because of the stockings, but don't think I was unduly damaged by the teasing.
  5. #119 Benjamin. Pot........kettle......black ....... comes to mind
  6. A huge hug from me, Terence.... xx
  7. LL, your first 'like' was on 21 February and that was about your first car (I looked at the earliest page of the likes on your profile!) and that was a topic you started, so that might well have been your first post. Just call me Sherlock....
  8. How many are actually active on here on an average month?
  9. But would I have recognised you, Benjamin? I can't go accosting all the suave gentlemen I see and asking them if they're from Nottingham, can I? Pleased you enjoyed your journey home and the breakfast. We journeyed home the way we had come - over little fen roads and then carefully along the Ramsey Forty Foot Drain. But we did lunch at Sainsburys in Ely and very nice it was too...
  10. We've just got back from dropping our daughter off at Peterborough train station to get a train to Skegness, changing at Grantham. There was totally free access on to all the platforms - you just walked straight through.
  11. DJB, my spoken French is rubbish - when I was at school it was nearly all written stuff, so that's why I picked it up. I'm really sorry I even mentioned it....
  12. DJB #113. Or even tu es? I'm having a picky day today - everything needs to be exactly right! Now why aren't my daffodils in neat clumps and where are the serviettes that match the dinner plates and why am I writing this rubbish.....
  13. Wish I had a fur coat in my wardrobe then I could go in the wardrobe, put the coat on and visit Narnia......
  14. I'd live in Woodthorpe where I grew up. The particular area where I used to live hasn't changed much and when we visit there now, it's like going back in time. I suspect, though, that wanting to go back to live there is probably more of wanting to go back to my youth! But I'm actually happy living where I am and, on reflection, I think I'll stay here and just visit my birthplace now and again..
  15. I suppose Robin and Marian could be connected to Nottingham
  16. My second name is Kathleen, which was my Mum's name. I really like it - it means 'pure'
  17. My mum said I was Eve when I was born, then became Vivienne shortly after. She changed it again when the doctor visited and said "I've always liked the name Margaret". I've been Margie, Margaret or Marg at various times in my life, but never Maggie... Our eldest son was named after my cousin's Alsatian (Gary). The next one was called Craig after one of The Champions (can you remember that TV series?) and our daughter is Diane because Paul didn't liked Dinah, which is what I wanted. Of course before the days of ultrasound scans, we had to choose a boy's and a girl's name before they were
  18. Do we judge some names by the people we know who have them? I think I probably do. I love our grandchildren's names but that may be because I love them! (Owen, Caleb, Guy, Jamie, Emma, Harry)
  19. What IS that? It looks very sad..
  20. Perhaps it mainly surfaces at night? (I'm clutching at straws here!)
  21. There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in (y)our philosophy. (Hamlet) I would like to think there are large creatures living in deep lochs - there would probably be more than one! I don't think they would be mystical, magical creatures either, as some people say. Remember when it was thought that the coelacanth fish became extinct at the time of the dinosaurs, and then a live one was discovered in 1938 (and others since). I try and keep an open mind on these things....... and wouldn't it be exciting if there was definite proof one day!
  22. I'm intrigued.... What was 'Husky Bum'?
  23. We used to twist the foil inside cigarette packets and make it into a sort of trumpet shape, then throw it up to the ceiling where it stayed!! Haven't thought about that for over 50 years. Can't remember if we wet the end first to make it stick.....
  24. The city boundary to the North of Nottingham runs up the middle of Woodthorpe Drive - we lived on the county side
