  1. Dont know if we have a ghost or not. Mum lives with us, shes 95 and just lately has been asking who the man is that comes into her bedroom. When I told her no one she told me she wasnt dreaming as it had happened a few times. She tells me he comes out of a door in her room and passes the foot of her bed and goes out of the other door towards the bathroom. Now the door he supposedly comes out of is a store room with no window and no access from anywhere. She insisted until I asked her to come and look. She confirmed that it was impossible for anyone to come out of there but still insists that h
  2. More interesting than politics, crime, soaps and the weather. Its interesting to find out what is happening in the rest of the world. Unlike UK we do hear whats happening. Surprising what we do hear. I for one am glad this has cropped up but as I dont drink iced drinks it doesnt affect me . But to be brought onto other countries news , it must be bad and quite common. Dont suppose any of us would wish to be contaminated by having icecubes in their G&T. I'm not being flippant about all the terrible things happening in the world . Italy has had its share of Tragedies includi
  3. Whats this I hear about ice cubes in bars, restaurants and pubs being contaminated by faecal matter in UK. It was on Italian news this afternoon. Missed most of it but ice making machines were apparently safe.

  9. Welcome from me too. Family history gets you hooked. I started many years ago and got stuck with some information that stumped me. I left off for a while then went back to it and found out more than I thought I would. I' m 73 and only have my mum left at 95 yrs of age. She can only tell me her side so gather as much info as you can. Sometimes you come across such sadness as I did a few yrs ago. Tracing one particular family who emigrated to America , the wife became ill and died, the husband had a fall from a horse and died. Of their 4 children only one survived and lived until she was in
  10. It looks like an early type of high frequency machine used in beauty therapy and hairdressing . See what Mary 47 thinks it is.
  11. Lovely to see Pat. She hasnt changed at all still that lovely smile. Wish I could be there too. Chulla you look good keep it up
  12. Well said. My mum is 95, cant walk far and sits all day as she is in a lot of pain....but tell her we are eating out whether its at my sons or daughters restaurant or elsewhere she is on the ball and goes to choose her clothes that shes going to wear hours in advance. I swear shes got a little skip in her step. It does her the world of good and as she's deaf she weighs all the other customers up and guesses who they are and what they do. Sometimes I have to say ssshhh theyre english especially if its not quite complimentary. But it does keep her mind alert. I agree with Fly to eat o
  13. Sorry folks no piccies. Weather cold and wet. My husband had anchovies for antipasto and I had an octopus and potato salad. Alex and I had pasta with sardines ( fresh) mum just had a main with squid, prawns and small, tiny fresh anchovies. 2 desserts of Tart Tatin a bottle of chardonnay . The bill €60 I wouldnt say that was expensive. € 20 ahead. We pay a lot more for a pizza and a beer. Get out and enjoy being served a good meal its better than expecting your wife to sweat over a stove and having to wash up afterwards.
  14. Margie I was interested that you were a nurse in Leicester. My uncle was a nurse who started in the north of england and eventually ended in Leicester and became 10 th male matron but not sure where. He was ordained Deacon in 1979 and ordained Priest in 1980. He had worked in Ulveston , Manchester and Rochdale. Sadly he died a few years ago.
  15. Going to a beautiful restaurant tonight. Local specialities and outdoor eating. Mind you theres a storm brewing so it will be indoor eating , shame really because its a beautiful setting. will take some piccies of dishes and surroundings weather permitting. And of course a copy of bill.
  16. Carni just catching up and sorry to hear everything. You'll be ok its the waiting that gets to you. Fly could have given you at least one doughnut greedy greedy. Never mind when you find something nice and gooey eat it all yourself and dont tell Fly.
  17. Phil , gone are the days of La Buca and Puccini. While in Italy try, " Wine story" and " L' Oca Giuliva. In Castagnole delle Lanze Both have received certificates of excellence. Prices easily acceptable. Mind you I' m predjudist. I agree though prices are sometimes a bit exagerated but if you know the prices before you go in and dont want to pay go somewhere else. Our local specialities for an 8-10 course meal costs around €25-30. The food is excellent but as its a turist area practically every restaurant has basically the same things. our restaurants do make local spe
  18. Oh and I forgot.....Nana and Garry used to take us to the beach to collect samphire which Nana used to clean , cant remember if she cooked it or not but then we'd eat it pickled, just in vinegar served with brown bread. Mmmm
  19. Broxtowlad It wouldbe nice to know if he did know him . I knew Stan Laurel came from Ulveston but must find out if he lived nearby. I think SL left when he was young so probably grandad wouldnt have known him. Granddad was born in Millom Cumberland. Maybe the SL house was near.
  20. Havent been on here lately but this forum stirred up some memories of my grandparents. my brother and I used to spend our summer holidays with my maternal grandparents in Barrow in Furness ( Lancs then but now Cumbria) Our parents used to take us up there and we'd stay until school time started again. Nana used to give us broken biscuits for breakfast which she' d buy fresh that morning from the local market just round the corner. They lived in a flat above some offices and right opposite the police station. They didnt have a toilet in the flat so we had to go down a couple of flight
  21. Found a few courgette flowers today. We dont see them often unless you know someone with a few plants. Filled them with potato, parmesan and mint. Then fried them.
  22. Thanks Lizzie I'm fine. A few aches and pains but trying to avoid certain foods. Since mum has been with us I'm eating more biscuits ( hundreds of cuppas a day) and things I dont normally eat. Last year I was so well with walking and watching my diet. This year has gone to pot. I know age has something to do with it too but I could do with losing a couple of pounds. Trousers are getting a bit tight. Still take my cod liver oil capsules and evening primrose caps. Dont know if they do anything but will carry on with them. C.L.O. I've been taking for years and I rarely have a cold, so they m
  23. Chulla , good luck with everything. It is frustrating when values aren't what is expected. It happened to me a couple of times when due for chemo. Once for high blood pressure and just by chance asked for a tablet as I'd got a headache ( wasn't going to say anything but it was so strong) . They sent me home with an appointment the following week. Another time I was agitated as I'd entered in oncology stressed because I could find a parking space. They gave me some concoction and gradually my pressure went down. You will fly through it and you have exactly the correct attitude. That is
