  1. Whilst Notts is getting a few showers the weather is unseasonally warm here. It is 35 deg C here with the ever present danger of bushfires, in fact we have had a total fire ban for the last two days so no burn offs or outdoor bbq's over a fire pit and you cant even weld or use an angle grinder outside on fire ban days. This is a picture of a bushfire at Stansbury on the Yorke Peninsula that burnt through the bush right to the ocean edge.
  2. It is fifteen years ago since Little Eva died and it reminded me of this soundtrack of my youth. It was 1962 and I was playing snooker at the local boys club on a table with a poorly repaired rip on the baulk line near the "D"
  3. Caddy and Co, they used to make fire bars for boilers used in the brewing industry
  4. Kids playing marbles, one kid has a "kong' but I don't think I can see any "steelies"
  5. This is the original of the Terry Hennessey song The opposition fans used to sing Terry, Terry Hennessey who the f****n hell is he. This is the original Barry Lyons Song Of course the Ian Storey-Moore song was She'll Be Coming Round The Mountain
  6. John Winfield (Winnie) one of the finest overlapping full backs I have ever seen. You don't see their like nowadays. This in my opinion is the greatest Forest team ever not withstanding the cup winning side of 1959 or that great team of the seventies. Players left to right rear row : Peter Hindley; Bob McKinlay; Peter Grummitt; John Winfield; Henry Newton; Front row : Barry Lyons; Joe Baker; John Barnwell; Terry Hennessey; Frank Wignall; Ian Storey-Moore
  7. Some classics on here and some interesting streetscapes too
  8. Some great shots there Plantfit. At about 6 minutes the narrator talks about a Barton bus at Mansfield bus station? I can never remember Barton running buses to Mansfield and at that time Mansfield did not have a central bus station and buses to various parts of the area had different termini. Buses to Sutton and Huthwaite stopped on Queens Street near the Co-oP and the Queens Head and buses to Newark, Bilsthorpe , Blidworth, Bingham, and the B8 MGO left from near the Midland Hotel at Mansfield railway station. I did not recognise any or the street views as Mansfield either.
  9. It's just the same here, I bought a delta (detail) sander from a well known hardware store and the interchange at the checkout went something like this..... "Thank you sir that will be $50" I hand over a $50 note "Could I have your name?" No "Could I have your mobile number?" No "Could I have your e-mail address?" No " But sir we need this information to register your warranty" No you don't "Is there anything else I can help you with today" Yes, a receipt please The bloke behind me just rolled his eyes.
  10. Its called Ineptocracy : A system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.
  11. That reminded me of this song by Roger Miller
  12. As Arthur Fallowfield from "Round The Horne said "The answer lies in the soil" While horse poo is an excellent fertiliser, in its "fresh" state its alkaline levels are too high and will burn the roots of most plants. Roses are a possible exception. Also you will get weeds from whatever the horse has eaten. There is also the risk of pathogens so it should not be put directly on anything that is going to be eaten. As Compo says you are best piling it up for a few months to hot compost and kill the weeds before using.
  13. The Kodak plant at Annesley, not far from the Badger Box, closed in 2005 after 25 years of operation so I guess that when Jonab took his pea souper photo it would have been sent to Harrow in Middlesex which is where I sent my Ektachrome slides if I wanted an enlargement or prints. Ian, Hope you enjoyed St. Patricks Day. I can remember having yellow lenses that clipped on my driving lights, not sure they were that much use in some of the fogs along the Trent valley in the 60's
  14. Are they the original tram lines so pre1936?
  15. Wasn't it Banks that spotted Shilton's talent whilst Shilton was still a schoolboy? Shilton will forever be remembered for the "Hand of God" goal by Maradona in the 86 world cup and Banks for the save from Pele in the 1970 world cup and on the basis of that save my vote would go to Gordon Banks. But this in no way detracts from the skill and presence of Peter Shilton. They are both in the top 5 of the worlds best ever goalkeepers
  16. Didn't Sun Valley Amusements have a big 8 lane wide set up right at the back or am I mistaken?
  17. I remember John White being killed by lightening playing golf. Interesting photo of the team and not a tattoo in sight.
  18. What about another "Sounds" group Sounds Incorporated and their booming sax in this
  19. PP the only "statue" that I can ever recall being in the main Mansfield Market Place is the gothic Bentinck Memorial erected in 1848/9. Photo by Dun.can There was a Market Cross in what the locals call the "Little Market" on Westgate don't know if there is anything there now following the desecration of another fine old town with the abominable Four Seasons development and the ring road
  20. Ian, Mansfield did not have a store during the 60's and 70's but it's original store was in Mansfield See this article from the Chad, sadly it is now closed https://www.chad.co.uk/news/final-song-is-played-as-sutton-store-closes-its-doors-1-8669317
  21. Woke up this morning to the very sad news that "Chulla" has passed away. Being in Australia I never met him but somehow felt that I knew him through this forum. I would have loved to have met him and had a chat, alas not to be. I will miss his posts about old movies, classical music, poetry and his knowledge of engineering and aviation related subjects. I had the good fortune to meet Katy and her husband on their recent visit down-under and to her, Dave's wife and daughter and all his friends and family I extend my deepest condolences.
  22. Yes Ian it was played regularly on Junior Choice with Ed Stewpot
