  1. Yes Mess, I had forgotten the Three Monarchs and remember M&W saying "Not now Arthur"
  2. The harmonica much maligned musical instrument Sound of Silence on harmonica, brilliant Enigma. I like this piece of harmonica music too. Who remembers Morton Fraser and his Harmonica Rascals or Larry Adler? How do they get such sounds from a little instrument. The William Tell Overture towards the end is amazing.
  3. Has anyone had a look at the top of League 1 lately? Imps at the top, Peterborough 2nd, Hull 3rd, and Doncaster 4th. If they get promoted there are going to be some interesting local derbies next season.
  4. Was it a wooden framed badminton racket? If so he should have sold you a racquet press to stop it bowing. No problem these days with high tech materials used for frames.
  5. Our Ben has gone bunta now that he knows how to post the links to YT. Good on ya Ben, keep it up, a new perspective and some long forgotten good stuff
  6. "Wanna" instead of want to, I heard it used on our ABC TV yesterday, the last bastion of received pronunciation
  7. Does anyone remember this? I don't and it's bl**dy awful. Max Bygraves DECIMALISATION - YouTube
  8. This reminded me of Fivepenny Piece a folk group in the seventies from Stalybridge and Ashton -Under-Lyme. Their female lead singer Lynda Meeks was one of those unforgettable voices. Many of their songs were comedic but others told stories of the changes in Lancashire during that era. I have several of their albums on vinyl and this is one of my favorite tracks Stalybridge Station Fivepenny Piece - YouTube
  9. The state of Victoria has gone into a five day "circuit breaker" lockdown in an attempt to stem the flow of infection of the UK strain of coronavirus. Does anyone think it strange that we can call it the UK virus but cannot call the original virus the China virus. It is being reported that Biden today has banned calling it the China virus in the USA. Meanwhile back in Melbourne all Victorians may only leave their homes for four reasons. To buy essential supplies Essential work or permitted education For 2 hours of exercise per day with members of their household or on
  10. It is strange that if you talk about "Street Furniture" in OZ people think you are talking about benches, bus shelters, street lights, advertising signs, litter bins etc. if you talk about road signs then it includes all the other stuff. I agree far too many signs, luckily our new car is smart enough to pick out speed signage and advise you if you are going over the limit as a pet peeve of mine is the number of times the speed limit changes on a length of road where there is no apparent difference in conditions. Parking signs are another issue here. This one is a sign in Sydney taken
  11. It is good to see members on here going to get their jabs and the number of infections and deaths falling in the UK. Meanwhile here in OZ we have not yet received our first shipment of the Pfizer vaccine, the only one currently approved for use in Australia. The government tells us that it will be rolled out in a priority order. The priority sub groups in order of receipt of vaccine is Phase 1 Quarantine and border workers, front-line health workers, aged and disability care workers and aged and disability care residents. Phase 1b Adults aged 80 and over, Adults aged 70-79, Oth
  12. A lot of chemical moss killers contain iron and I know they can stain pavers with a rust colour, don't know if they stain artificial grass. Do you have any small pieces left over to use as a test piece? Albert, I think your garden looks great
  13. We live in an area where many people are older and past climbing ladders to do painting and other stuff, and many suffer from the same problem you have, no one turning up. One of these days the tradies will wake up to the fact that all they have to do to win a job is turn up to quote when they say they would, offer a fair price, turn up on time, do a good job and clean up afterwards. They could then stop advertising as word of mouth and repeat jobs would keep them busy. older
  14. I totally agree oldphil. Here in Australia it has become pollie speak as they all have to say the three word message twice. I am sure that it is because they think the voters are a thick as they are.
  15. I was just pointing out they they are available and look good, we don't have any. We have drought tolerant plants in the borders and a natural lawn at the front and native shrubs and trees in the main garden all with the aim of low maintenance, just have to edge and mow the lawn.
  16. Brew, your DB is quite correct. When we were doing process improvement activities in factories or offices we used a system called 5S the first step of which is to sort out all the stuff in say an office. The stuff should be sorted into groups. Group 1 That which no-one remembers ever being used or at least not within the last year collect it up, sell it, donate it or throw it away. Group 2 That which has been used between 6 months and a year, clearly label it and store it where it can be found if needed. If it is not used within the next 6 months it becomes a Group 1 item if it gets
  17. We have got artificial grass around our pool, a lot of visitors think it is real and ask how we stop the chlorine in the pool water killing the grass. Yes you do get the odd weed in it especially around the edges I just pull them out. It gets full sun almost all day so we don't get any issues with moss. It is softer on bare feet than most of the grasses that can survive our hot summers but can be hot on the feet on a 40 degree day. Some of the plastic plants that you can get these days are very realistic and if the plastic in them has the correct amount of UV stabiliser in it they la
  18. Stand easy Sir Captain Tom Moore your duty is done. Thank you for your service.
  19. That Mansfield District Traction Bristol Lodekka is a smart looking bus. The MGO bus with the Vernons advert on the side was an AEC lowbridge series that had four seats on the nearside and a sunken aisle on the drivers side of the upper deck. Buses like that one often serviced the B8 route due to the low bridges around Bestwood/Hucknall before MGO bought Bristol Lodekkas.
  20. Brilliant, having not been to Nottingham for many years I have to admit that I had to find Slab Square before I could orient myself as the skyline and buildings have changed so much.
  21. According to our media he has not had the vaccination as he has been suffering from a chest ailment. I just wish him all the best and hope for a speedy and full recovery along with all those suffering from Covid 19.
  22. Thanks oldphil, before I try this I will go and check with my cartridge supplier to see if he will take the non genuine ones back if they don't work otherwise I will be further out of pocket. Interestingly the shop I get them from is consistently cheaper than anywhere else I can get them even on line.
  23. I've used an Epson NX printer without any issues for well over 6 years. When I first replaced the cartridges I used a generic brand with no problems, 40% cheaper than the originals. Recently for some reason it does not recognise the non genuine cartridges, I suspect a software upgrade.
  24. They were mostly in Derbyshire and North Notts, they served Clipstone, Ollerton, Shirebrook, Worksop, Chesterfield and Mansfield. I think they serviced the Nottingham, Mansfield, Chesterfield and later Sheffield with Route No 63
