  1. Ford sidevalve engine was 933 cc later and finally was 1172cc. The early engine was thermo syphon cooling no water pump the later engines had a water pump but those engines made more than eight horsepower probably around twenty two BHP.
  2. I think back in those days HP was rated for tax purposes not BHP.
  3. I learned how to use a slide rule when i was at night school around 1962 at the old Peoples College on College St.near Hooleys car dealership, i have not used one since will need retraining.
  4. I remember Lloyd Binch and Tony Crisp Lloyd lived in Kimberley and Tony lived at Nuthall just down the road from me on New Farm Lane i went to Nuthall Cowsheds school with his brother cant remember his name he had a sister Ann who was into horse riding, are they still around?

Hi Nonna hope your mum is doing ok at 98 and fit she has a lot going for her,virus or no virus millions of people are getting sick we all have to take precautions i think its going to be a long haul so we have to tell everyone to be safe and use common sense it will be worth it. Everyone over there stay safe.

Not putting any weight on yet i am still working and busy digging holes in the garden planting trees and shrubs guess what a few daffodils are coming through now always late compared to England they will be in flower the first week of June i planted some crocuses i get the leaves each year but no flowers its just too cold here i am surprised anything survives.Take care oer there be safe.

  13. Jill was he the Machin who was the partner of Machin and Hartwell of Eastwood i think they owned a hardware store his girlfriend who became his wife was a Miss Buxton who was our class teacher at Alfreton High School and she became Miss Machin i know what her first name was.

  15. Can anyone remember the Gang Shows put on by the scouts and cubs i remember doing only one and it was held in a big hall somewhere on the Nottingham side of Cinderhill Island. I think we did the show for 3 days and the audiences were quite large,the act we did was based on a circus.

  21. Welcome to Nottstalgia John there are many interesting things on this sight going back a long way just like many of us. I was in the first Nuthall scout group in 1958 and remember going to Walesby camping it was a good experience living with basic things like pitching your tent going to the Providor for supplies,cooking on a campfire and washing our dishes and cutlery in the small river that ran though the forest.Our Scout Master was Ron Whitmore who later became a Queens Scout he did a lot of work for the Scout movement. Welcome to Nottsalgia Geoff did the Kimberley Rifle Club ever meet at Watnall in the old ww2 underground early warning bunker i visited the bunker about 12 years ago there was some remains of the past but there was a gun club down there.My father had the garage at Main Road and Common Lane at Watnall.
  23. The year of bus going by the number plate RAL795 ithink is early 50s my dad had an Austin A40 Devon and its number plate was NAL 978 which was 1952 so the bus number plate would make it a bit newer the photo is definitely newer.
