Bubblewrap 3,815
Early 80s? I can remember beer was 12p a pint when I came to live in Loughborough. When I first started drinking beer was 1/10(9p) a pint.(Shipstones & Home)
Cliff Ton 10,467
A couple more. Here it's called the Astoria but I suspect Barry Noble maybe hadn't been born then. And this one from 1978.....I can't work out (or remember) what it's called

poohbear 1,360
Looks like Sherwood Rooms to me...Re the car park...Do you reckon the bloke with the moulds for those concrete sections was giving out backhanders so the council used 'em to construct all the crappy blocks of flats they threw up. Cliff Ton 10,467
An in-between shot. The old stuff has been demolished, but the new monstrosities haven't gone up yet. And it's called the Sherwood Rooms at this stage - late 1960s.
.... 23
Think it was still called The Sherwood Rooms into the mid-seventies on memory.
taxi ray 170
In the image posted by Cliff Ton, what was the building in the top left hand corner?
Cliff Ton 10,467
taxi ray, here's a (slightly) better view of it. apparently it was an EMEB showroom. I must've gone along that road many times when the place was there, but I don't actually remember it. And another view, closer but older
lynmee 38
Was'nt it also called the Greyfriars before the Astoria?

Cliff Ton 10,467
Thanks Cliff, what street would that have been? That was Carrington Street. Some of it still exists, but that stretch of it is totally buried in Broad Marsh Centre

barclaycon 569
I went to that gig. Faces with Rod Stewart at The Sherwood Rooms. Excellent. It had been postponed previously, but they put on a great show that night.

.... 23
The Faces were a fantastic live band but could descend into disarray at times! When they were 'on' i.e. sober-sh they were unbelievably good live. There were a lot of tensions in those days as it was often suspected that Rod kept his best material for his solo albums. The parting of the way finally came around 1975/6 I think when Rod decided to go his own way permanently and work with American musicians on Atlantic Crossing. The early albums were great though - both solo and with the Faces. A Nod's as Good as a Wink by The Faces is a classic. Considering Rod's early work which was often folk-influenced and his uncanny knack of picking great material, it's a shame the way things went as he courted fame. Still kinda like him somehow. BeestonMick 263
The Faces I used to love the Small Faces but never really gelled with Rod Stuart - there was just something I didn't, and still don't, like about him. Maybe it's because he supports Manchester United and Celtic?
FLY2 10,108
Like him as a singer, but his choice of football teams leaves a lot to be desired. Celtic 1 - Forest 2 what a day / night.
