LizzieM 9,510
Just got home this afto from a fantastic girlie week in Corfu, we’ve had so much fun, good food, sunshine, bit of shopping and a just a few alcoholic beverages. Two of us had decided to go and visit a friend who’s lived in Corfu for the past 50 years after marrying a Greek, who sadly passed away a few years ago. She was at the airport to meet us with an ”Ayup” and away we went, a laugh a minute and so much banter. An English friend of hers joined us one night for dinner and she didn’t know what had hit her, this woman sat mesmerised listening to us lot, she thinks she’s posh cos she originates from Guildford!! I then went to vote and was told I was the 500th person to vote in our ward today. Doesn’t sound like a very good turnout does it, this was at about 8pm. I didn’t get a prize but did get told off by one of the ‘workers’ in the Polling Station as I happened to just mention to my husband that he only needed to vote for ONE person as he followed me into the booth. Right, think I’d better get myself a drink now, don’t want to get withdrawal symptoms after this past week!
FLY2 10,108
Glad you enjoyed it Lizzie, Corfu is such a beautiful place. I bet you all shook up the locals !

Beekay 5,150
Rog, after your pictures of the narrowboat I've finally got round to trying to picture mine. Due to the length of the shell I can't get it all on one shot so just done the cabin.

Beekay 5,150
The biggest problem was painting the tiny flowers on the can etc. The helmsman looks like he should be in Village People ! It can be radio controlled with the relevant bits, but I'm afraid I'm not that clever. B.
PeverilPeril 3,283
Had a lovely walk/scramble on the bank of the River Dove today. Just checking out what work needs doing for the fishing club. There were swarms of Mayfly and fish rising to take them. There was an abundance of large insects flying around, Damsel Flies,Crane Flies, Butterflies and even a moth that looked like a Jersey Moth - first I've seen hereabouts. Sunny day by the river - who needs a fishing rod?

FLY2 10,108
Back last night from a gorgeous sunny and interesting holiday in France, and found it amazing that NOBODY on the coach ever mentioned B****t, and not one French person we encountered ever mentioned it either. As usual, we were all made to feel most welcome. Yes, I appreciate that they like our spending power, but it was good to be in a different environment for a few days.

Cliff Ton 10,467
Are they actually bricks on the car ? The patterning on the surface is unusual.
philmayfield 6,139
I think it's a sort of brick 'frog' to hold the mortar and stop the bricks from sliding until set.

FLY2 10,108
CT, I think they are genuine bricks, and by the looks of it, hand made. The colour is reminiscent of the yellowish bricks in the London area. I bought some red bricks, albeit with similar markings, from a reclaimation yard in Kent several years ago, to rebuild my lounge hearth.
plantfit 7,597
You get those dark spots on the bricks by adding "Breeze" to the mix during the manufacturing process,"Breeze" is a type of crushed coke that burns and glazes over in the kilns leaving that distinctive pattern Rog
