mary1947 2,080
Hi nonnaB yes Christmas time was a very happy time to work in the salon. It was amazing how many clients would give us Christmas presents. I remember one year, we had about 30 bottles of wins 10 boxes of Chocs plus what you client would give you in a christmas card. Mind you when NonnB and myself worked in salons the wagers were C!!!!!!!! we did rely on tips and our commission for a decent living wage. "Merry Christmas" nonnaB and Merry Christmas to all members. Those were the days my friends we thought they would never end.
nonnaB 4,895
Mary, very true. You couldn't believe that so many customers thought so much of you as to bring Christmas presents. About "how much" it's ok to ask it but when they reply can you understand them? I had to learn replies very quickly here.

katyjay 5,091
Jill, I find when a cat upchucks, they do like a soft surface underfoot! My house is mainly tile, with a couple of rugs. If they start to be sick they move to a rug!
Jill Sparrow 10,307
Ah, thanks Beekay. I have a very similar moggie. His name is Bruno. Lovely picture. Katyjay, I find that when they start to throw up, putting newspaper in front of them doesn't work either. They go elsewhere!

PeverilPeril 3,281
Another day cutting the tree stump out. Contractor can't do it with stump grinder because it is embedded with an ancient rock soakaway and has also encapsulated concrete posts and footings. I've dug a 5' deep trench all the way around it and removing the rock soakaway from underneath. There could be a tunnel under it this afternoon. A bit like working on a coalface with a pick. Quite enjoying it really
Beekay 5,146
P.P., by the time you've done you may as well turn it into a swimming pool. Or maybe even a decent elephant trap. Who knows what you could catch, the world's your lobster.

Seasons greetings anyway, ya miserable owd bugger. Many years ago we used a fax machine a lot ........ fax? What’s one of those? A business colleague of my husband’s knew it was his birthday and he also knew he was very frugal when it came to buying the rolls of fax paper. A fax started coming through in our upstairs office, it kept going on and on and on. All it said on the fax message, in very large print, ‘Happy Birthday Roger’, time and time again, not only using up a whole roll of fax paper but also all the ink. The paper went across the office floor, along the landing, down the stairs and along the hallway, before we managed to stop it printing by just unplugging the damn machine. philmayfield 6,136
I've still got a fax machine. I noticed it yesterday on the desk hidden behind my iMac. I must chuck it in the next skip we have. I've not had a fax message in years. I also remember Telex where you typed messages in real time and it came out looking a bit like a telegram. I remember chucking that into the factory skip although it would probably sell on ebay to a collector today! Also do you remember those GPO switchboards where you plugged in a line to the appropriate extension?
LizzieM 9,508
We dumped our fax machine years ago but you’re right, would sell for a few bob these days. What we have hung onto are boxes and boxes of 3 pin adaptors for the dozens of pieces of office, household and garden equipment we’ve bought and then thrown away when they’ve broken. I’d love to dump the lot but I’m not allowed to ...... they COULD be useful.
philmayfield 6,136
We've had two skips this year so far. We've done the workshop, the shed, the two greenhouses and all the unwanted furniture that we'd put in the sun lounge. The landing is piled with disposables and we've not even started on the storeroom yet. We're taking a break until Jan and then we'll have the final purge. What we have have got is about 30 paintings and prints collected over the years and although not intrinsically valuable it would break my heart to dump them. There is no wall space available for them.
PeverilPeril 3,281
Third skip collected today. The skip hire driver would get more than a nod of approval from the hairy chested bus and lorry drivers on here. Precision reversing up our walled driveway and skip placed exactly where required. She is in her late 20's and has the looks and figure of a model. I've booked another skip but she may get suspicious collecting a forth empty skip
trogg 2,016
How many of you have finally thrown something out, after saving it for years, only to need it after just a few weeks .
philmayfield 6,136
I’ve noticed that in my workshop clear out. There were always bit and bobs of off-cuts of wood and metal around. Now I’ve had to buy in some lengths of those materials to start all over again. At least I can find things now though.
