Merthyr Imp 729
Lyons corner houses( waitresses were called"nippys") Before my time - I can only remember them being self-service (and I don't just mean the one in the Market Square).

Chulla 4,946
Boils on back of necks. Major crossroads without traffic lights. Carbuncles. Boys' school caps. Boys' gabardine raincoats. Railways crossing gates closed by winding a wheel. Nigger as a shade of brown. Invalid carriages with winding handles to chain-driven front wheels. Fountain pens (rare). Football not being taken seriously. Two-day Christmas holiday. Tolerance towards smoking. TV writing good enough to entertain without resorting to sex, violence and swearing. Packets of loose tea, not tea bags (rare). Dolly tub and ponch. Foolscap and quarto paper sizes. Entertainment without guitars. Crooners (ie, singers with a good voice). Romantic songs that have sincere lyrics. Nottingham without one-way streets. A cinema in every district. And just to be different - lampposts that were always metal, then concrete are now metal again.
