FLY2 10,109
I thought that there was a world glut of cheap oil on the market with the prices hovering around £1 per litre, but that didn't last long did it? They have been creeping steadily upwards over the last few weeks, and are now virtually back to where we were a year ago. I suppose it's governed by the big four supermarkets who could envisage a shortfall in their profits. Rip off Britain. Dead right.

DJ360 6,738
Been getting my hair cut by the same girl Pat for 40 years. She used to be my neighbour. For as long as I can recall she charged me £5, though I'm sure it was less for the first 20 odd years. Then her daughter took over the business and now it's £7.50. Bloody Kids!! Still. There are no bad Kids. Only bad ow... parents. I must have a word..
FLY2 10,109
I've had my hair cut by my wife for years and have never paid a penny. I'm sure she's honoured to do it. However, I don't like her getting too near my neck with anything sharp. It's somewhat unnerving !

Guest
Since Brexit and the pound/euro difference... all shops have tore off the pound price! So we are still being swizzed- even though the £ has dropped.
PeverilPeril 3,292
Do you use Stena lines Ian? They've been ripping us off for decades. I can get to Ireland cheaper on a Brittany ferries boat from Roscoff than Stena from Holyhead to Dublin. The French crossing is more than twice as far and includes a cabin. Stena keep sending me 'offers' but you have to travel at ungodly hours on rust buckets (compared to BF).
Guest
Terry, the high speed one was great..but poor weather and fuel prices,Stena have gone back to dinghies! The trip to IOW and to Dun Laiorghe are the most expensive ferries I have encountered.
Oztalgian 3,343
We have a really expensive (Rip Off) ferry service in South Australia Cape Jervis to Kangaroo Island a round trip of approx. 40 kilometres (25 miles) takes 45 minutes one way. Return cost for 4 adults with a car, $392 or 234 quid this works out at nearly 10 quid a mile. A really beautiful place to be but so ridiculously expensive to get there and back. FLY2 10,109
Lymington to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight is currently about £50 for a car and two passengers for a trip of a few miles and probably 20 minutes endurance. Disgusting !
NewBasfordlad 3,599
Back in the early 2000s I had a winner, we went with friends to visit the Somme battle fields. They booked us onto the now defunct Hoverspeed Dover to Calais and upgraded us to first class at a cost of £10 each. What was included was quite amazing, first class lounge and newspapers on arrival at the terminal, priority boarding with your own space on board with more room to exit the car, escort from the car to the first class lounge on board, your own table with super seats, waiter service with meal and drink included, someone to fetch your duty free for you and finally, escorted from the lounge to the car deck before others ready for priority disembarkation. Probably the best ten quid I have ever spent.
Guest
Gripe Alert! Recently a relation of mine moved over to Nottm, purchased a car..all well and good- she has been with Axa since the year dot. They didn't recognise her ten years no- claims in Ireland!! She will have to start again...car £340- insurance £950. Tesco..same £1200!! She was refused by some..even though she has impeccable history/cashflow and character. Reason? She was told that recently"certain sections" of our population are fleecing us with faked, staged and bogus crashes. Charming.
FLY2 10,109
I see that speeding fines are increasing dramatically as from Monday. It will be a three tier system depending upon ones salary. Well that's all very well, but what about the unemployed? I suppose they'll be exonerated ! I'm all for persistent offenders being fined, and get points, but this just seems to be another excuse, as if one were necessary, to hit the motorist once again. Now before the 'holier than thou ' brigade throw their arms up in despair, let me give an example of 'speeding' being a slight necessity. As our current driving expert, radfordred advocates, just under the limit is perfectly acceptable. Well so it is in certain aspects, but if I'm attempting to overtake a line of trucks on the motorway, and rr is in front of me doing the same manoeuvre, but gets the jitters at 68, then am I to remain behind him indefinitely, or momentarily exceed the limit and pass him ?
catfan 14,793
rr is perfectly in his rights to drive at 68mph ! The law says 70mph MAXIMUM which means you don't HAVE to drive at 70mph, 68 mph being quite legal & acceptable. Faced with a car driving at 68mph is not a problem FLY, use the outside lane ! My son got done last week for driving at 37mph in a 30mph zone, up to 35mph he would have heard nothing 30mph + 10% + 2mph is given usually. So my lad was 2mph above the allowance. No sympathy from me at all, the law is the law whether we like it or not. It's like saying i was only JUST over the drink drive limit & I feel OK, no excuse at all, the law is the law. If this sounds holier than thou attitude FLY then so be it. I have no sympathy whatsoever for anyone convicted of speeding. I have seen too many accidents & dead bodies on the road due to excessive speed.
FLY2 10,109
Yes Catfan, but I'd have to slightly exceed 70 in order to pass rr
