MargieH 7,613
BK it’s the order that you work out equations. Each letter stands for a different function. example: 2 + 3 x 5 = 17 (not 25). The x is always worked out before the + There are more BODMAS rules but that example will do
Jill Sparrow 10,325
Beekay, thank your lucky stars you didn't have to suffer double maths with Barmy Colleen at The Manning! As if the Ian Paisleyesque tones weren't punishment enough, there was also the undecipherable scrawl all over the board, chalk/board duster/wooden ruler/hardback text book missiles to dodge and the threat of burning in hell/eternal damnation for not being Catholics! Maths was just boring compared to all that! If you're listening, Barmy Colleen, the answer is lemon meringue pi. . My favourite
The Engineer 614
I don't recall when I learned it but nowadays BODMAS is covered in Primary School. The order in which the mathematical 'operators' are considered is: Brackets Order (meaning powers and roots in this context - sometimes cited as Indices, making the acronym BIDMAS) Division Multiplication Addition Subtraction
