katyjay 5,091
Which estate were you on Robbie? He came round Bells Lane Estate even though we had the Broxtowe Lane/Bells Lane shops at hand. But then again, all the travelling salesmen did well, when you think how many came round the streets. Robbie 39
katyjay, It was Bestwood Park in the early 60's. I also think Buxton's had a cash and carry outlet with premises on the road towards Northern Cemetery.

DaveN 1,118
Robbie did you take the photo of the bus or did someone else?
Robbie 39
DaveN, No, I got a selection of photos relating to the same bus. I was sent these by the guy who bought the bus from NCT to be restored for the use by a boys club. Do you know anything about the photo?

Bilbraborn 1,594
Re #505. I was talking about that bus on another thread. My mum used to serve the owner at cash and carry.
Bilbraborn 1,594
Terrence. I was lucky because in Glasgow, as soon as you turned 21 you had to learn to drive buses. I got a full five week course and test completely free of charge. And what buses. I hated the Leyland Atlanteans as they were too modern. The rear entrance Leylands and AECs were much more fun to drive, although those with crash boxes gave you a severe dose of Tourette's. Can you remember when you were a conductor, in the hot sweaty weather, all the yellow liquid nicotine dripping off the upstairs ceiling onto everyone's heads. All the passengers just carried on reading their newspapers and smoking. No one would put up with that today.

Bilbraborn 1,594
I know what you mean Terrence. Even in the 70s school kids were very challenging. My best passengers were the young ladies going clubbing, although as a young twenty-something, I did have a small following of girls who would go out of their way to catch my bus. I bet they're all grannies now. I like the picture. Next stop the moon.

briyeo 56
The answer to the question in post # 521 is that Glyn Pickworth was driving the MGO Lodekka that ran off the road near Langley Mill and Eastwood GNR station. It wasn't his fault, you can read is own account on this website scroll down towards the bottom of the page. http://www.heanorhistory.org.uk/v2publictransport.html
