philmayfield 6,201
That brings back memories. Mackesons were used for the school trips at Mellish and Pascoe’s, the electrical people in Bulwell, used to supply the public address system on school sports days.

Surely you mean Makemsons There is a great slideshow here with some shots of a Marsden store for our Ben The Omnibus Society | Makemson, Bulwell, Nottingham (zenfolio.com) There is also some good stuff on the Bulwell photos Facebook site including a red and cream Makemsons single decker in a montage of a number of their coaches.

I did a colliery run from top of St.Albans road, via Bestwood road to Calverton colliery. I've also worked as a conductor on their Bulwell market to Bestwood village, on Saturdays and Sundays. I'm fairly sure that was a lowdecker with the long bench seats and gangway down the starboard side.( the one in Oz's link).

notty ash 372
I faintly remember catching a Makemson single decker from Hucknall Market Place to Bestwood Colliery and back with my grandfather. He was on holiday and went to pick up his pay packet. It was a half-cab single decker. The conductor was quite perplexed that a minor was travelling on the bus and was not sure what fare to charge. philmayfield 6,201
Very easy to confuse a minor with a miner! 2
Newarker 23
l had no idea that Makemsons had such a big fleet or that they ever operated double deckers. Passenger Transport Yearbook 1962 lists the fleet as 5 d-d buses, 2 s-d buses, 13 coaches comprising Chassis: 11 Leyland, 3 AEC, 3 Bedford, 2 Commer. Bodies: 5 Leyland, 4 Burlington, 4 Harrington, 3 Yeates, 3 Duple, 1 Willowbrook.
