  2. Thank you Stuart.C it must be me as i did not know any thing the consultation. How many people live in Derby / Derbyshire / Nottingham / Nottingham / according to the figure quoted bout 5,000 Don't get me wrong Stuart but I do find it hard to belive that I never heard anything about it.
  3. Have you tried the water jet cat scarers Rog? Available from Amazon.
  4. I have three options left to me for the cat problem that is plaguing our close, 1 Catapult and .38 cal ball bearings 2 air rifle 3 four pronged bayonet (garden fork) Why should I have to go around my garden every morning to clear away cat crap and being a bird lover why should I have to witness these creatures killing birds and raiding nests with young I have tried every thing I can think of to stop the problem from electronic scarers through to netting on my garden and nothing seems to stop them so as far as I can see the final solution is the only way, I'm sorry if
  5. Mary, yes there was a consultation to see if the Notts / Derbys residents wanted to join forces and have single East Midlands Mayor. A public consultation on East Midlands devolution, carried out between November 2022 and January 2023, showed strong support for the plans among local residents, businesses and community groups. There were 4,869 responses to the consultation overall, from members of the public and people answering on behalf of an organisation. The number of responses was higher than similar consultations on devolution in other areas.
  6. Today
  7. I admit that we’re not cat lovers and we have a bigger garden than all our neighbours, most of whom seem to have two cats each. Every time I look out of the window there’s one of them sneaking around (and pooing) however we wouldn’t ever harm a cat or any animal for that matter.
  8. If you're on Facebook there's a lot of old Makemson's photos here.... https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.317068805159160&type=3
  9. I used to drive one like that for MAKEMSON, when I worked part time for them. I did a colliery run from top of St.Albans road, via Bestwood road to Calverton colliery. I've also worked as a conductor on their Bulwell market to Bestwood village, on Saturdays and Sundays. I'm fairly sure that was a lowdecker with the long bench seats and gangway down the starboard side.( the one in Oz's link).
  10. Sorry, I was just copying Notty Ash’s wording.
  11. Did they serve milk stout on the Hucknall run? Surely you mean Makemsons There is a great slideshow here with some shots of a Marsden store for our Ben The Omnibus Society | Makemson, Bulwell, Nottingham (zenfolio.com) There is also some good stuff on the Bulwell photos Facebook site including a red and cream Makemsons single decker in a montage of a number of their coaches.
  12. That brings back memories. Mackesons were used for the school trips at Mellish and Pascoe’s, the electrical people in Bulwell, used to supply the public address system on school sports days.
  13. Our ex-Prime Minister, Scott Morrison has admitted that he took medication for severe anxiety whilst he was in office. He explained "how his faith had intersected with his time as leader" (what does that mean) and that the toll of the job had worn on him and that his waves of anxiety had become acute. As arguably the worst Prime Minister Australia has ever had. I can assure him that he caused endless anxiety to countless millions of Australians who lost their faith in him and his Liberal (Conservative) government with their endless rorts and waste of public money. The deliberate poli
  14. Here's a rare one came up in my facebook feed Mackeson Coach
  15. Of course it's not alright. We regard ourselves as vastly superior to cats and other animal predators but we're tottering on the edge of annihilation because, for all our supposed intellect and logic, we're behaving like barbarians.
  16. Basil. Oregano, lemon balm. All easily grown at home.
  17. Our cats brought 2 baby goldfinches in yesterday, alive but too damaged and young to rescue. Breaks my heart. They usually account for about 20 fledglings and adult birds pa. Wish we didn't have them. They also killed several frogs a couple of months ago. Oddly enough they were all male frogs and there is still un fertilised spawn in the pond. Why the hell we have domestic cats I do not know. Lovely creatures but killers.
  18. My grandmother used to sprinkle sugar on a salad. I didn’t get that. Our local strawberry growers, Starkey’s in Southwell, have dug up their strawberry beds as they can no longer get the cheap foreign labour to pick them.
  19. Any fruit and veg that you grow yourself always tastes better than shop bought. A classic example is strawberries. Those huge ones from supermarkets are awful, give me a smaller sweeter home grown one any day of the week. The storage and carbon footprint on shop produce takes the flavour away. I grow melons in my greenhouse and although small they are like nectar.
  20. My mum always used to sprinkle a little sugar on sliced tomatoes, add a little pepper on strawberries and always had sliced cucumber in vinegar.
  21. We’re great users and growers of herbs as well. It is the finest sea salt and freshly ground black pepper that we sprinkle.
  22. I never use salt and don't like pepper. I'll substitute herbs instead. Just as tasty.
  23. Have the cats shot Lizzie, bloody nuisances Rog
  24. A tomato salad without the seasoning to enhance the flavour? Well chacun a son gout!
