  3. Thing is LL, you can't flog stuff nowadays and charity shops don't want electrical gear because they have pay for a Pat test. So my philosophy is, if it still works, use it!!

  4. I remember Julie, she was friends with my cousin Su Pollard. Like Su I think she went to Peveril School but I didn't really know her personally. I think you lived close to Josephine Jordan didn't you? That part of Bobber's Mill Road was great, I remember a gang of us used to have one metal roller skate each with a piece of floor boarding across it, sit on it and fly down past your house on the pavement and round the corner at the bottom. You wouldn't like to try it today with the amount of traffic on the road. It was also the place we used to wait for the Shipstone's horses pulling the wagons

  7. Agree with you 100% re the harmonica Oz. Remember the 3 Monarchs who were often on the box and Arthur Tolcher who used to try and gatecrash the end of the Morecambe and Wise show. Larry Adler was outstanding and vastly underrated. Paul Jones plays a mean blues harp too.

  9. By the end of the year the new building put up to replace the demolished one opposite the Midland Station will be occupied by 4000 staff working for Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs. Anyone else think it’s amusing that the VAT and FIDDLE pub is right next door?

  10. Both granddads were Walter and that's my middle name. Wonder if that one returns? Our youngest Great grandson is a Benjamin - great name that! I still don't understand why it is necessary to have double barrelled surnames following marriage? One of our grandsons and our granddaughter in law did this, resulting in our great granddaughter having the longest name at school. Why worry about our middle names? Just look at pedigree dogs and cats!
