  1. A lovely visit to Barnsley market today, weather was nice and warm with very little breeze, loads of friendly people about and some great market stalls and shops to explore, the food hall catered for just about every taste from good old home made pies right through to far eastern menus at a fantastic price, I sat down waiting for Mrs P to bring the drinks and food and I said to this guy on the next table "nice and warm today me duck" he immediately replied "you not from Barnsley are you with an accent like that" No was the reply he then said "you from Nottingham aren't you" wow is my accent st

  2. From being Cricket daft...........i now have little or no interest in the game...... Dad too loved the game......and he taught me 'Spin Bowling when i was about 5............and from the same age i could name every player from all the Test playing countries....... But over the last 20 years or so my love of the game has vastly dwindled...........its changed so much..........never a great fan of the one day game....(except when playing it)......the county 3 day stuff was ok......but for me it was the Test matches that completely enthralled me......

  3. Just been reading Bluecoat history, think it was written a while ago,, The Blue Coat School This was founded in 1706, but the present building, which stands at the foot of the High Pavement, was erected in 1723, on ground given by Mr Wm. Thorpe, a benevolent attorney. It contains a large school room, and a suite of apartments for the residence of the master, who has 100 guineas a year, and he is allowed six tons of coals annually for the use of the school. Two statues, in niches at the front of the building, represent a boy and a girl in their school costume. The charit

  4. I spotted this today. It’s a bee fly which mimics bees. It is very clever and lays its eggs in solitary bees nests. The larvae when ready will then eat the bees eggs after it has gorged on the pollen which has been left in the bees nest for the potential little bees. It loves purple, pink and white flowers so I’m not surprised that it was in my garden as I have lots of pulmonaria to attract the real bees. How fascinating. If you Google bee fly you can find out lots more info.

  5. I think or rather hope the pendulum has swung at Meadow Lane as the mighty Pies recorded their first home win under Stuart Maynard. Harrogate, a notorious anti football, spoiling team were well beaten in the end by Notts who showed the commitment and desire so badly lacking earlier this year. One swallow doesn't make a summer but Notts played well and their on loan keeper Luca Ashby-Hammond saved a vital penalty. I haven't seen that happen at Meadow Lane since another on loan keeper Anthony Patterson saved a Paul Mullin spot kick back in 2021. The highlight of the game has to be Jod

  8. Thanks, Stuart. That makes a bit more sense of it. @BeekayI think Bluecoat started in a building on Mansfield Road,, opposite the Victoria Centre. It's accessed from a side street (Bluecoat Street?). I presume the building still stands and it's probably listed.

  9. Archway Trust, who own / run or whatever, Bluecoat have been given a short lease on the old People's College building on Maid Marian Way for temporary use for their 6th form. The space that frees up at Bluecoat is being used for start up pupils for the new Free Secondary school being built on the old Clarendon site, should be finished this year. When the new Clarendon (not called that) building is open, start up pupils will move and Bluecoat get their 6th form space back. Whether Archway will run the Free School I know not. Edit,, yes they will be, to be calle

  10. The basis of MGB is still there but is now called Bluecoat Wollaton Academy, with entrances on Harrow Road and Sutton Passeys Crescent. It's been modernised a lot, but underneath it all is the original 1950s buildings. https://maps.app.goo.gl/cEVg7skewuA2ASje6

  11. The problem became worse when I encountered a heavy outcrop at the back and there was so little charge the blades simply jammed leaving me with a hair clipper firmly attached to my head. Strangely the ensuing imprecations on the makers parentage plus considering its suitability for a free flying lesson did not help at all.

  12. Oz I agree, the simple things to change are easy, wall ovens are a pain in the neck and I can’t abide clocks of any sort being different to other clocks in the house. Maybe because working for an airline, the clocks had to be correct. Always mystified me though what happened between 2359 and 0001 because there never was a 0000 time in aviation. I watched a programme years ago about changing the clocks in the museum. There is a set way of doing it but it takes ages. Also, why do microwave clocks gain a minute every so often ?
