  1. Had a big sleep in this morning. didn't get up until 9.15!! Usually 6.15. Yesterday was the last day of the World Erg Challenge for Indoor Concept2 bikes and rowers. There are 6k entries and the idea is to row or ride as far as you can between Mar15th and April 15th = 32 days inclusive. I was trying to get into the top 50 so I made a last effort by rowing just over 15km and cycling 49km yesterday. Just didn't quite make it, finishing 56th. I am fortunate enough to be a team member of the ANCIENTS - a crew I joined 19 years ago when I retired at 66 (you have to be over 65) many were and still

  2. Another very windy day but make the most of it eh?, dustbin day today out here, general waste and garden waste, first job this morning was to (once again) clear all the cat poo off the garden, I've got some netting on the way to see if that helps with the problem (fingers crossed) at the moment my back garden is covered in leaves from the tall tree in the corner of the field, do I clear them up or do I leave them to break down and act as some sort of feed for the grass?, Might try out the powered scroll saw today cutting out some components for the wooden "golly frogs" frogs and teddy bear mo

  3. They’re deep in the back of the shed somewhere. I’ve got to root them out. I bought them when I stopped working in a factory and became a full time rustic. I also bought six sheep, a Landrover Defender, a heated propagating frame, a pair of green wellies and a flat cap. I sometimes chew on a piece of straw as well.

  4. I’ve used Toro mulching mowers for the past six years, both a ride on and a walk behind. They chop grass and leaves into a fine mulch so I don’t have to collect the cuttings and drive back and forth to the compost heap. The mulch feeds the lawns and I must say they’ve never looked better. I cut about an acre and a half so I have a wealth of grass cutting experience! I’ve cut the grass six times this year already.

  5. We have two 8’x12’ greenhouses. In one we grow 14 tomato plants, usually Shirley. In the other we grow 4 Beefstake tomatoes, 4 cucumbers and a mixture of peppers and aubergines. Both greenhouses are now cleared out, cleaned and ready to go. I lit my three year old bonfire on Saturday which had become massive. About 20’ by 10’. It was a spectacular blaze! My veg garden had grown over since my hip problem and it’s getting a bit too late to rotovate it now. I might hire a deturfer, shift the grass and rotovate it ready for next year. We can buy fresh, locally grown vegetables from the shop in the

  8. County - In front of 11,656 fans, no doubt many from Stockport saw the Magpies thumped 2-5 at home against Champions, Stockport County. Paddy Madden scored a hat-trick in the first half to put the game beyond doubt even at that early stage. His second goal was a penalty after Cowley's handball. 5 minutes after half time Stockport went further ahead with a goal from Antoni Sarcevic. The Magpies eventually opened their account with a goal from that man Macauley Langstaff in the 61st minute and two minutes later Dan Cowley bagged another for Notts but all too late as Etham Pye hit Stockport's 5th

  11. Shame it didn’t take a few trees down around Mapperley Park so we could get some sunshine in the garden.

  12. The mainstay varieties I always grow are Gardeners delight and Moneymakers. They have stood the test of time being good croppers and disease resistant.

  13. I make a years supply of passata every year so I grow fleshy tomatoes like San Marzano, Coeur de Beau and Iraqi. The Iraqi ones are from Mosul originally and to prevent the seed from becoming lost, some bright spark in the Iraqi war collected loads to keep them going.

  15. I have a leaf blower that converts to a lawn vac. It mulches the leaves as it sucks them up and then I just tip the contents of the bag on the garden beds, it helps keep the weeds down. Deciduous leaves make the best mulch as it breaks down quickly. If the leaves are from eucalypts I put them in our green bin as they take forever to break down but I doubt this is not a problem in the UK. You are incredibly lucky to have the Pheasants, beautiful birds. We get the odd duck who soon polish off any clover in the lawn

  16. The company I buy my electricity from, we do not have a mains gas supply here, is offering new customers a $200 credit on their first bill if they switch to them. What about their existing loyal customers? They get SFA. Thanks for your loyalty.
