  1. Nobody here knew you a few years ago, so we don't know you've changed ! As far as we're concerned, you've always been like this, so you haven't aged or gone grey or anything else.
  2. The subject has been covered in many threads here, including these http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4076&hl=%2Bdon+%2Bjuan http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10503&hl=%2Bdon+%2Bjuan#entry151651 http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5684&hl=%2Bdon+%2Bjuan#entry84983
  3. Quite a few mentions of the subject here http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12402&page=2&hl=locarno#entry235349
  4. I think this may be what we are talking about. Still marked on a 1900 map, where it goes into the Trent (marked tastefully as 'Sewage Outflow')
  5. Re: the origins of the name Hyson Green. It seems Hyson Green came into existence in the early 1800s, This is one explanation, with a Mr John Ison setting up his cafe / tea-shop for the punters. (scroll down a short way) http://www.nottshistory.org.uk/articles/mellorsarticles/radford3.htm In the book 'History of Nottingham Suburbs' by Geoffrey Oldfield he gives a variation on that. He doesn't have a Mr Ison being involved, but instead quotes an old directory which said the name Hyson came "from the tea gardens to which patrons frequently walked in the summer to quench their thirst w
  6. My dad had one which looked exactly like this. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e2/Bond_Minicar_from_ca_1956.jpg No windows, no real door, so no security. And the rear seats were sideways-facing 'hammocks'. Class stuff.
  7. Welcome to Nottstalgia Davidc1904. If you haven't already found it, there's a thread about Pipewood http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7765&hl=pipewood
  8. One's a Mark C (or D); one's a Mark E or F; and one's an 875. http://www.bondownersclub.co.uk/types.html
  9. When was the last time you saw three Bond minicars in a Morrison's car park at the same time.
  10. If you want to fry your brain for a while, take a look at the expert in illusions. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=escher&es_sm=91&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=7LyBU_meLoadO-6OgYgK&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1267&bih=693
  11. That's a weird coincidence because I didn't know anything about the Milton's Head cave story when I started that thread a few days ago. I did it because I'd noticed the place had the builders in. The BBC have provided a bit more information..... Property developer Paul O'Shea bought a 150-year-old building in Derby Road, in January, to convert into student apartments.
  12. And Nathan, if you haven't already looked at this thread http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12429&hl=%2Bjohn+%2Bstreet I wonder if you can shed any light on the location of John Street, which has baffled the combined brains of all the ex-Netherfield people here.
  13. Still as bad. I reckon it's definitely connected to Chrome. I'm struggling to get on Nottstalgia via Chrome, but if I go via Firefox or Safari I never have a problem.
  14. To add to what Melissa has said, a bit more information would help. Presumably there is a Nottingham connection somewhere; in which area did your grandmother live? Do you (or did you) live in Nottingham? And the names / location of 'the aunts who got talking' might also help identification of the people involved. And if you can provide any other connected surnames or locations, that might be useful as well.
  15. If you are a member of Friends Reunited, there's a photo of Georgina Taylor and Diane Carsley (and many others). Go to the Greencroft Primary page, click on 'Photos' and look at photo number 20 out of 33 (also titled Miss Parry's class 1958).
  16. But Chrome or not...........I don't ever get the problem on any other website.
  17. It hasn't improved since I started the thread. I'm wondering if its related to whichever browser people are using. I'm normally on Chrome and that's when I get the problem. If I move over to Firefox it doesn't seem to happen - unless that's just coincidence.
  18. Not quite, but......... Mr Bean who started it is one of those people who registered, logged in, made one post, and has never logged in again since.
  19. We were on Woodbridge Avenue, but that name doesn't ring a bell with me.
  20. I've had a lot of these in the last couple of days. Am I alone with the problem?
  21. Next door but one ! A few years ago I was recognised by Alan Adkin, his older (?) brother who is a postman. He delivered to the place where I worked and I didn't know him until he told me who he was, then we both knew who we were. Yes, I've just sent you a Friend Request.
  22. Melissa, you actually know everybody here and everybody knows you. Don't forget I lived in a house at Clifton which backed on to the house where your dad lived. I'm not sure I remember Mandy Daykin though; but if she was near Shawn's house I must've been aware of her.
  23. I was picked up as having high blood pressure a few years ago and I've been taking the tablets ever since. According to the nurse concerned, I was high even by the standards of high - well into the 170s. Apparently I'm now normal. At the time I didn't feel unwell or odd in any way, and it was a bit of a fluke that my pressure was checked on that occasion. If I hadn't been, I might not be writing this now.
  24. I've now discovered where the Nag's Head was. Almost next door to the Old Angel.
