  1. I would have said Blacknells were scooters or motorbikes, rather than cars. http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM012498&prevUrl=
  2. I think as well as having to deal with an accident, they'd also have to deal with driving without valid insurance.
  3. I've had mail re-directed several times over the years and I'm glad the Post Office are strict with their ID rules. How can they know that a person has a genuine claim to ask for someone's mail to be re-directed? Without the correct security, anyone could ask for another person's mail to be sent somewhere else. I could go into a Post Office and say that I am Mr Smith of 27 xxx Street, and I want all mail for that person to be sent to another address. Thankfully Royal Mail will only do that if I can prove that I really am Mr Smith and I am moving house.
  4. Borrowed this from the RCTS site. It's from Victoria Station looking down the Thurland Street tunnel (the photos in #129) to Weekday Cross in the far distance. In the days of steam, this would have been a very rare view.
  5. According to Wiki, St Pancras was opened in 1868, which rules out the Suburban by at least 20 years !
  6. May 27th. Can you bear the suspense.
  7. This one http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7708&hl=%2Bcar+%2Bdealers The forum Search box is at the top right of the home page. And this http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8263&hl=disappearing
  8. See bubblewrap's posts at #11 and #21 for the official addresses Looking at the photos in post #6, you can see the point. The Magna Charta seems to have two doors down Kirkewhite Street, and one on the corner, partly on Wilford Road. The Castle seems to have its main door on Waterway Street. And the Locomotive has three doors all around (this shows it) http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;PTPN002032&prevUrl=
  9. I couldn't have told you how much it is to send anything these days because I don't use the post very often. For the benefit of anyone else in that situation, these are the current rates. 1st Class Letter will cost 62p 1st Class Large Letter (up to 100g) will cost 93p 2nd Class Letter will cost 53p 2nd Class Large Letter (up to 100g) will cost 73p So if you had a large birthday card, or just a big envelope, it might almost be cheaper to drive round to the recipient's address; or if you are of a certain age you could uses your bus pass to deliver the card personally, and it wouldn't cost you
  10. I seem to remember there was a symbolic Maypole somewhere on the outside when it was operating under that name. The Ponderosa is still sitting derelict; see post #1026 a few weeks ago. http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2341&page=52
  11. The building is still there, and it is still a pub, but called The Wilford Green. When Streetview went past, the conversion was in progress. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.925617,-1.158096,3a,75y,179.04h,93.5t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sB0CsgCTMltBvttXSToXU6A!2e0?hl=en
  12. When I first saw the heading of this thread, I assumed it was advice on how to get rid of one of these, if you'd changed your mind about someone.
  13. Officially it was counted as being on Queen's Drive http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM003596&prevUrl= And today that part of the world looks like this (look especially at post #12) http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10671&hl=%2Bcentral+%2Btram
  14. I don't know the area too well, so I could be talking rubbish here, but according to Picture the Past there were the two named by denshaw and Commo (The Locomotive, and The Castle) and also the Magna Charta. http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;PTPN002033&prevUrl= http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM007283&prevUrl= http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM007200&prevUrl=
  15. This lot were near the canal at the back of the Magistrates Court / Waterfront area.
  16. Mick, I think those two pull-ins which can be seen here https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.95557,-1.178108,3a,75y,17.48h,88.02t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1syQSaevbH-V_E0g4XEWnv4w!2e0?hl=en are the remains of the entrance/exit to a petrol station which was on that site. It can be seen best in poohbear's first (colour) map at #9
  17. Photo of that box at post #34 here http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8526&page=2
  18. Melissa, Picture the Past even have a few photos of it.
  19. It just made it into the reaches of Picture the Past. http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?&user_keywords=gate+hangs&operator=AND&town_village=&date_period=&database=&action=search&keywords=Ref_No_increment%2CDisk_No%2CLocal_Accession_No%2CMap_Reference%2CTown_Village%2CLocation%2CTitle%2CDate_of_Image%2CDate_Period%2COther%2CForm_completed_by%2CKey_Terms%2CThemes%2CKeywords%2CPhotographer%2CArtist%2CEngraver%2CPublisher%2CForm_of_Acknowledgment%3BCONTAINS%3B%25gate%25%3BAND%3BRef_No_increment%2CDisk_No%2CLocal_Accession_No%2CMap_Reference%2CTown_Village%2
  20. Pretty good view of it on Britain from Above http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/image/epw016316 If you've registered with them, the zoom in shows quite a bit of detail.
  21. Carni, I'm sure you'll be sorted by the time the next meet-up comes around (whenever it is). You been a regular visitor for quite a while, so you can't start missing them now.
  22. The building on Streetview is the same building on the map at #9 just below the S.P. which is marked to the left of the bridge.
  23. Almost spooky how it's managed to survive. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.978324,-1.164265,3a,75y,122.88h,97.23t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1svXcqJZYUYYOJvxc4cp4Fgw!2e0?hl=en
  24. Take a look at post #21 and #22 http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12448&page=2 Are you not a native of these parts?
  25. I understand your concern, but a considerable number of photos on Nottstalgia have been "borrowed" from such sources. I think people take the view that no gain or profit is made from such use. I was also surprised to discover that we already have a small thread on the subject http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7694&hl=haydn I think Disused Stations maps are a bit imprecise. Is this better?
