  6. That was the James Store building built in the early 1900`s as a department store but went out of business just before the outbreak of WW 2.
  7. Don't think of her as gone away Her journey`s just begun Life holds so many facets This earth is only one Just think of her as resting from the sorrows and the fears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days or years Think how she must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away And think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched for nothing loved is ever lost and She was loved so much Ellen Brenneman
  8. I do wish you all the best Chulla, a positive attitude is so important and vital in fighting this vile and evil condition.
  9. Referring back to the Ladies outing, my Brother recalls that it was probably an outing from The New Inn on Union Road.
  10. I have an original of the photo as the lady in the centre standing is my maternal Grandmother,Beattie Brealey and to her left is I believe her Mother, Maria Holmes. I think that at the time that this was taken Gran was by then living in Curzon St and Great Gran would be living with one of my great Aunts in Comyn St, but I can't remember which pub had arranged the outing.
  11. I bought a plastic nose flute from Nequests on South Sherwood St sometime in the late 50`s but could never get any sound out of it other than something resembling an asthmatic duck (if you've ever heard one).
  12. Haggis trap for young haggis?
  13. No more Saturday mornings with Brian Matthew, no more Friday evenings with Desmond Carrington. End of an era for those of us of a certain vintage.
  14. Margie, re#42, F in Law bought a static on Golden Sands in 1974 so we probably saw each other at some time walking over the "pullover" beside the amusement arcade on the way to the beach.
  15. Thanks for your kind wishes Jill and Margie, sometimes I feel so helpless to do anything and am very disappointed at the lack of support from the organisations you mention, although we have just started to receive assistance from our GP surgery and the Locala nurses who come in daily to see to dressings do give of their best that they are able, although they are so very busy looking after so many others in need.
  16. I am so sorry to hear of your situation R.E.A.D. and feel your pain and despair as unfortunately we are in the same awful position with my lovely wife struggling with this. She did undergo two attempts of chemo but both times suffered attacks of cellulitis and sepsis and so in January was told that she was no longer strong enough to have any further treatment and effectively told to go home and give up, it was such a callous thing to do in our situation. Mrs C cannot leave the house because of her physical condition so if you still have that ability and the will to so do, please make the
  17. Does anyone else remember the Berkeley T60 three wheeler, powered by an Excelsior 328cc twin? A colleague of mine in the early 60s had a blue convertible and I always thought it looked like someone had tried to manufacture a kiddies E type.
  18. Re #62, the village near Huddersfield is Slaithwaite but as Tim says, pronounced Slough- it although locals also refer to it as Slath-wate; ya pays yer money an teks yer pick!
  19. Welcome to the Forum Waddo, from another owd St Annsian; there are a few of us on here. I lived in Comyn St, off Great Freeman St but moved out to the broad acres of Ruddington in 1955 although still had family there until the mid Sixties when they were rehoused. Enjoy the Forum and keep posting with your memories and recollections.
  20. Know what you mean P/man, it was always a vibrant part of town and had to go with the flow to get to the bus station for the 14 Barton to Ruddington. Used to occasionally frequent The Sawyers after it had been "gentrified" into a Berni. Home Ales never bothered doing that with The Tower!!
  21. Welcome back Ashley, it's good to see you on here again and I hope that you are recovering well.
  22. Thanks Albert, enjoyed this but reckon you perhaps meant it for our Scottish exile Compo!
  23. Katy, that would no doubt be Elm Close, ran down from the junction of Mansfield Rd and Alfred St North then across Cranmer St on to Corporation Oaks.
  24. With both Old Dog and Partridge and Original Dog and Partridge being opposite each other, she perhaps found one of them not as salubrious as the other!
