  1. Click on the little down arrow alongside your name at the top right of the screen. Choose “Ignored Users”. Start to type user name to be ignored, select and add. Funny, I’ve just had to do the same!!
  2. Yes, I think you must both be right. There doesn't seem to be another Palace cinema anywhere else around that area.
  3. Saw those 2 pics on a Post website but couldn’t make out where the top sketch was supposed to be. It doesn’t seem to fit the topography of Cliff Ton’s map at all, and E A Wilcox butchers was at the bottom of Carlton Road!
  4. Used to live on Cardale Road so this was our local cinema (photo Evening Post). Don't know why, but the only film I can remember seeing was called "Come Next Spring", probably mid-50's
  5. Didn’t go to the school, but believe John Vipond worked at Players
  6. There is a huge majority on this site who believe that the site has improved considerably in the last few weeks. However, I urge this majority to remain silent and not rise to any attempts to re-ignite old arguments. It will only drag us back to where we were a month ago. Beware possible hidden agendas!!
  7. Just a random photo.. my wife was at the physio’s in Woodborough yesterday and for once I didn’t fancy waiting in the pub (must be sickening for something!) Found a bench in the churchyard and spent a beautifully peaceful and contemplative half hour just sitting in the sun in a truly beautiful location ...
  8. Thought it, Nonna ..... daren't say it!!
  9. Nick, I have this vague idea at the back of my mind, that the name Harry Rutherford and that shop is somehow connected to my family, the Brooks's of Carlton. Any bells ringing for you?
  10. Just got back from the flicks. Been to see “Fisherman’s Friends”. I love their music and the authenticity of it really emphasises that shanties were usually work songs. You can really hear the “stamp and go” as the capstan was worked round and the hauling on the sheets as the sails were hoisted. Been to Port Isacc many times (before Doc Martin) and have heard them sing on the Platt Whilst I’ve eaten my fish and chips (washed down with a pint of HSD.) However .... the film takes such a liberty with the real story that it’s difficult to see any facts at all. Shame really. I could hea
  11. That's great BK! How about taking some photo's and giving us a look? Oh, and Cliff Ton, don't be giving this council any more ideas, we've enough student accommodation as it is!
  12. Bleddy 'ell, Loppy. 'Ope she dun't wear it out! Sorry! You must be sick and tired of organ jokes, but I couldn't resist.
  13. No, it looks like the gates at the side of No. 2 Factory, with the Personnel Block to the right of the photo. No. 3 Factory Docks in the background.
  14. Just to confuse matters more! From the People at Players website, a NCC photo ...
  15. I think it was Fittipaldi but could be wrong. I seem to remember it was driven by a F1 champion, and Andretti didn’t win that title until the late 70’s. If the photo is 73/74 I believe it would have been Fittipaldi. Another memory has just bubbled to the surface. Believe the driver was Brazilian and Andretti was American, All of the above may be wrong!!
  16. Hmmm, I can vaguely remember moving some photos into different galleries without thinking that that would also change their url's (if that's the right phrase). Beware image posters! Learn from my mistakes (wish I could!)
  17. Sorry Margie, I had a day off yesterday. Hope you had a nice birthday!
  18. Glen, my Dad’s cousin. Beautiful, sunny girl. Then Jenny. Felt like somebody had hit me across the middle with a baseball bat. We’ve been married 50 years last December.
  19. Wow! Thanks very much for those kind words! What with waiting for emails from the National Archives etc. it took much longer than I thought, but I did enjoy all the research. I now feel that the Pretty Windows is very much my local although I don’t visit all that often. I’ve just finished formatting it and uploading to Lulu, an online printing company who also deal with distribution - for a commission! Don’t mind though. Don’t really want to make any profit out of it so all proceeds will be donated to Winston’s Wish - if there are any proceeds of course!
  20. Me too. I've been trying, on and off (more off!) to learn classical guitar for decades. My problem is just lack of willpower, but I'm sure that if I could manage to play one piece OK it might spur me on. I always found it such hard work and therefore difficult to stick to. If you could inspire me LL I'm sure I could get something out of this latest guitar I picked up at the charity shop only a few months ago!
  21. When I was metal detecting we had many experts in the club - and I don't mean that in a disparaging way! The amount of knowledge some of these chaps have is amazing and very diverse. We had one guy who was an expert in old buttons! I was an expert in silver foil and bottle tops!
  22. I could hang some in my shed. When I get one.
  23. No. I'm moving. When I've moved I'll get a shed for the garden. I'm looking at sheds on t'internet. When I find one I like I'll post a picture.
  24. I live in a flat, but I'm getting a shed soon.
