  1. Hi Cliff Ton, Yes I did thanks, sorry for not acknowledging your help. I tried that but I have had no reply to that either.
  2. Looks a great film. I've just tried the link on #6 but it appears to be broken. Are there any other links?
  3. Hi Dat47, Apologies for posting this on the open forum but I have been trying to contact you again by PM for ages but without success. The only other way I could think of making contact was to put up this post. Sorry Admin if this is not the right thing to do but can't think of anything else to try.... I think there must be a slight problem with messages between us Dat47, as I can see that you have tried to reply a few weeks ago but the message was blank?? Hope you are ok and all is well? Drop me a PM if you see this. Many thanks
  4. I vaguely remember being taken as a very young child to see an Aunt who lived somewhere down Radford Road. Can't remember much about the visit but do remember being fascinated by all of the chimney pots including lots of factory type chimney stacks. It was a bit like a Lowry painting ! Does anyone know where this might have been, or were there lots of factory chimneys in and around Radford?
  5. #17 Commo, you may be interested in a new magazine that has come out all about the railway scene at Grantham. I was amongst the many hundreds of kids who would travel from Nottingham Vic to catch a glimpse of the pacifics on the mainline and also try and bunk the shed, happy days indeed. All proceeds from the magazine go back into the "Return to Grantham Project" which operates on a not for profit basis. Details of how to get a copy on the website www.returntograntham.co.uk
  6. Before I write this I'd just like to say "What a glorious day, the sun has got his hat on !" Going back to my original post I have sent Dat47 a few mails and appear to have received an answer, but his reply was just a copy of my question?? Maybe he has sent a reply but I can't see it for some reason, anyone any ideas? Back to mowing the grass and trying to avoid the dog. He has a habit of sitting in the path of the mower and then repositioning himself ready for the next line when I turn round to come back.
  7. If like me, you travelled from Nottingham to Grantham to watch the trains go by you may be interested in a new magazine available now through www.returntograntham.co.uk You can also contribute to future issues and in particular the magazine is looking to include your own memories & anecdotes of days out from Nottingham to this railway mecca. The Return to Grantham project is run on a not for profit basis and you can find out more by visiting the website.
  8. When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was about VHS recorders !
  9. Also Hornby Dublo "Duchess of Montrose" (I think that's what it was called)
  10. A magnetic robot. You selected a question and it (as if by magic) pointed to the correct answer.
  11. We have seen more talk about a possible new Trent crossing in the news recently. If you were part of the decision making process and had influence on this matter where would you put it?
  12. The Beatles, The Shadows, Joe Brown, Roy Orbison, Tammy Wynette, George Jones. Wizard. Lots more I can't recall at the moment...
  13. Well done ! You should start a new airline from EMA to be used by Nottstalgians only. You could call it FLY 20K
  14. Thanks for posting the map Cliff Ton. Gosh, it really was a short street as you say!
  15. Thanks for that Cliff Ton, forgot about Lovell & Penney ! Still got my tie somewhere...
  16. I have been trying to gather information or pictures about Hope Street in the Meadows. My Grandfather lived there during the early part of the 20th Century. I presume this was all cleared away for development but not sure when.
  17. Fairham:- Black blazer, grey trousers, grey cap, black tie & grey socks with the colour of the house you were in around the top. I was in Alexander Fleming house (blue) Other houses from memory were, Hunt, Kenyon, Whittle, Britten & Elliott, cannot remember if there were perhaps others, but I don't think so. Prefects had a black tie with the school motif (swan) on it. When the Beatles first appeared we turned the colours down on our jackets to make them into "Beatles Jackets"
  18. I've just read through all the entertaining posts on this thread. I enjoy the new (and old) subjects that arise but equally like reading this sort of banter even though the subject matter is actually about a lack of content. It is probably just a seasonal thing but I will double my efforts to post more. Going through a busy time at the moment but will try and put my tupence in if possible !
  19. If you have any memories of trips from Nottingham to Grantham then you may be interested to know about a new quarterly magazine being launched on 23rd April 2015. This will be the first issue, but memories and anecdotes are required for future issues. If you are interested in perhaps seeing your own story in print then please visit www.returntograntham.co.uk for more information. Smiffy
  20. Although I live between the Lincolnshire Wolds and the Lincolnshire Edge we find PlusNet provides a relatively decent service.
  21. Just for those members who used to travel from Nottingham to Grantham to watch the trains go by. The end of April sees a new quarterly magazine that is all about the halcyon days of steam at Grantham being published. Full details are available by visiting www.returntograntham.co.uk Smiffy
  22. Went to a funeral today in Kingston, London. The time of the service was 09.35 just as the eclipse was at its zenith. The entry music was (honestly!) "Here comes the Sun"
  23. Jelly & Mandarin Oranges with carnation milk.
