  1. It's not impossible. I've done Italy and back in a day. In the pub before closing time as well. It was a long day though!
  2. That I can agree with! The song associations as well.
  3. There's plenty of old photos of Nottingham available on line for all to see. That's probably where ID gets them from anyway. No need to clog up this site unnecessarily.
  4. I don’t read his rubbish but I for one wouldn’t be sorry to see the back of him. He does clog up the site with his overpostings.
  5. Paragon Interiors Group Plc according to news releases.
  6. Not a good day for Allan Hardy. His company Paragon is in administration and there’s a winding up petition from the Inland Revenue against Notts County. Apparently he borrowed seven million from Paragon to buy the club. Not a good move in retrospect. We’ll just have to see who’s waiting in the wings to buy Notts County. He doesn’t even own the freehold of the ground. Looks like he’s been a little over ambitious. He lives nearby. I’ll see if his house is for sale when I pass!
  7. Dangerous things chip pans. The cause of many a kitchen fire. I don’t think anyone would be stupid enough to use one nowdays.
  8. No, the only chap I know who did a bit of driving for RM is Ted Gray, who comes from a farming family in nearby Morton nr. Bourne, who used to chauffeur him occasionally. He now lives in Southwell. I did have an uncle who had a Raymond Mayes conversion on his Zephy 6 back in the 50’s. Modified cylinder head and camshaft and triple carbs. Went it worked, which wasn’t often, it went like bullett!
  9. The trouble is for men these days is that you’ve only got to look at a woman to be accused of being a pervert and put on the sex offenders register. As for talking to a child or patting it on the head - don’t even go there! How do people get to meet with the opposite sex (or should it be the same sex!) these days. I suppose it’s all done through dating sites where all participants have a common agenda.
  10. No, Morton near Fiskerton. I do know someone from Morton near Bourne. That's Ted Gray, quite a character, who now lives in Southwell.
  11. Yes, I believe it's the same family. I do know two of the Caudwell girls (girls - they are older than me!) One lives in Morton, the other in Southwell. Both now married.
  12. Also Caudwells of Southwell. Greet Lily Flour.
  13. The original factory was in Newcastle, the Bells Royal Works. So I was wrongly informed about the name. It was originally Bells Royal Flour, hence Be-Ro.
  14. My father used to know one of the directors of Be Ro. Tom Bell, who used to live at the top of Oxton hill. He ran the Daybrook factory. The other director, who ran the Newcastle factory was a Mr. R. Oliver. Combining the names Bell and R. Oliver produced Be-Ro!
  15. This tram nonsense is turning into a complete farce and I just can’t see any solution to it. This will be with us forever as the cost of closing the system down would be prohibitive. Maybe some tarmac down the sides of the rails to fill in the gaps and more buses might be a solution.
  16. I used to sail at Hoveringham in my Enterprise dinghy many years ago. Prior to that I had a Mirror dinghy which I built myself. I remember going with a borrowed van to Bell Woodworking on Narborough Rd. at Leicester to collect the kit of parts which required some serious gluing together!
  17. That’s a coincidence. We were dining at Tom Brown’s that lunchtime and we drove up to the lock afterwards. All the world and his wife were out on Saturday. I’ve never seen it so busy at at Gunthorpe. A big difference on Sunday, the Bleasby Tea Shop car park was deserted when we drove past in the heavy mist. The new aircrew memorial is in the glebe field next to the churchyard. It commemorates lives lost in aircraft collisions in the area.
  18. Not at that price I wouldn’t think. Perhaps if they were substantially cheaper the volume of post would increase. This is just a disincentive to use the mail. Fewer people are using the postal service. How can we bring them back? ‘I know, let’s put the price of stamps up’.
  19. My wife found a dead piglet on our field. She put in a bag and took it to Fiskerton tip. ‘Watcha got there duck?’ the man said. ‘A dead pig’ she replied. ‘OK duck, chuck it in that skip over there’ he replied - like he gets dead pigs everyday!
  20. Mitchell Farm Services had a dealership at Etwall. They sold farm machinery but not cars.
  21. We had a lad at the factory who thought they were called ‘Stiltons’. He used to go into the workshop and ask to borrow a ‘pair of Stiltons’. The engineer got cheesed of with him!
  22. Maritus is husband so it could be maritorious.
