  1. Some parts of Scotland this month have had better weather than down here. Are the flies still a nuisance in Scotland when it's cold and wet?
  2. Better to use the term 'climate change' then everyone might be right. I suppose we shouldn't just use this country as a benchmark, though...... There are some really extreme weather conditions in other parts of the world
  3. Welcome deebird - like your interests on your profile page! I grew up in Woodthorpe, so not far away. Hope you'll keep posting
  4. MD, I will be thinking of you on Thursday...
  5. I know very little about football, but could it be that the Iceland team have had more time together to practise playing as a team? They haven't been thrown together from various other teams [like England and many/most others] Just a thought....
  6. I've never played Backgammon. The games that I play with the youngest grandchildren are Yahtzee, Monopoly, Draughts and Mancala. I do play Chess occasionally with the 5 year old but I'm no good at it and he usually beats me!! I get bored with Monopoly once you have to start mortgaging property etc so I often set a limit of half an hour or an hour for a game then you add up all your assets and cash. I used to like playing Othello but don't know where it's gone - must have lent it out to someone.
  7. How now, Newbie brown cow. Did you ever have elocution lessons? Hope you'll keep posting on here...
  8. # 3 it was a joke! Think about it...
  9. The way to kill moles is to bury them alive....
  10. Here's the link http://www.worldnakedbikeride.org
  11. Last Saturday in Cambridge, there was quite a bit of nudity.... It was the annual nude bike ride to protest against cars etc and pollution generally. There were all kinds of people from beautiful girls to old men - according to the pictures and article in the Cambridge Evening News yesterday. I wasn't there (either viewing or taking part!!) but one person said it seemed to be just a lot of old men showing off their bits.... Of course, some people were outraged as usual but it seemed harmless enough.
  12. Catfan, these days the school would have spare uniform for those who needed it, including sportswear - some things have improved from when you were younger I'm pleased to say. You must have been very resilient to cope with all you've written about x
  13. I've just been in the garden and had another look for the sawfly caterpillars on the only gooseberry bush that still has leaves on it. I found about 6 or 7 of the little wrigglers so I carefully removed each leaf they were on and put them on the bird table. At least they'll have a last meal before the birds come down for breakfast! Unless they decide to go on a long walk back to the bush, of course! I feel a bit sick as I first started to pick them off with eyebrow tweezers, but one of them got nipped in half in the process. I felt really bad
  14. Jill, no eating while wearing uniform? Bet it was interesting in the dinner hall!
  15. Bit expensive, but nice picture on the front.
  16. Hello Freckles. Was that your nickname at school?
  17. Compo, I've looked for caterpillars under the remaining leaves but can't see any. It did say on one site I looked at that there can be 3 lots in a year, so maybe I missed them? I've given up with the gooseberries this year so I'll sort them out next year. I'll pick them off and put them on the bird table - I don't like actually killing them but that action doesn't count as the birds need to eat!
  18. Sorry the previous meds didn't do the trick, Chulla. The 'horse tablets' sound difficult to take but I expect it will get easier as you continue with them. I really hope they will be the right ones for you. Paul joins with me in sending you best wishes for a successful outcome.
  19. Our previous house had been built in 1851 and the name CHESNUT HOUSE was carved in stone over the front door. I think the stonemason wasn't very good at spelling or at recognising trees as there was a huge walnut tree and even taller yew trees but no chestnut trees in the garden when we moved there in 1981. Mustn't be too critical though as there might have been a sweet/horse chestnut tree there when it was built.
  20. Thanks or that bk. I'll keep that in mind
  21. Something is eating the leaves on my gooseberry bushes but I can't see anything. They are doing it systematically going up one branch at a time. Any idea what it could be?
  22. Oh dear, I'm the odd one out here - I always used to meet my dates in front of the RIGHT lion and he was also the one I used to sit on when I was a little girl. The only time I met anyone in front of the left lion was last year when It was two people from NS!
  23. Thinking about it, he could have a little picture of 'The bells' Are you reading this, Michael?
  24. Katyjay, that's a bit unkind lol (and wouldn't you feel bad if he really did look like Quasimodo!!)
  25. I'm your friend on Facebook, Blondie, so I know what you look like... and it's true - you still look good x
