  1. Good for you Melissa. But when I had to cut long hair at work it always made me a bit sad. I dressed hair for 14 yrs and yes the wages were terrible. I was at Godfreys on Noel st then at Park salon at canning circus as manageress. Peppers was one of our suppliers and I remember the rep Mr Lambert think his name was. He had lost an arm and had a hook. I was always fascinated at the way he was able to use it. I cut my husbands hair occasionally, but I have no interest in it now. Knowing all the tricks of the trade I am very fussy who I choose as my hairdresser. From when I st
  2. Loved GF as a kid. My brother and I were given half a crown each. Rides cost 6d. Dad always used to be on duty ( policeman) so when our money ran out we used to search for him and he'd get us free rides with some of the fairground crew. My daughter crushed 3 vertebrae on the cakewalk. Some days later she was walking badly and the Dr found she had one leg longer than the other. Quick visit to hospital and after 3 xrays they found these 3 cracked vertibrae. It was a very worrying time but after 6 weeks it was fine.
  3. Story not about Nottingham or even a strange happening but something extraordinary. In 1981 we lost a neice through a car accident. Some years later my husband had a strange dream. He dreamt that Ingrid had come to him to show him where she lived. It was in a beautiful valley and she slept in the base of an old tree. My husband told her to find somewhere more comfortable but she said she was happy there but sad because Zio Fernando kept disturbing her. She wanted to stay in peace and didn't want any visitors. Tell everyone that I'm alright and happy. My husband shot out of bed really
  4. Misty talks. When my husband comes in from work she paws him and says gnam. Hubby says " you want gnam ? And so it goes. Gnam and crocchette appear. I must take a video of how she behaves when shes getting her lead on. Its too funny to believe.
  5. Duplo or individually wrapped in gold foil gianduia
  6. Could it be Gianduia or Tronky or Baci Perugina or Kinder Bueno. Cant think of any more. Was it in a wafer or all chocolate. Theres a lot of hazlenuts in this area and most hazlenuts from here are used in confectionary.
  7. Toto Brasso . Sounds more Italian to me. Toto is short for Antonio. Brasso could be Basso or Bresso. Will ask around if there was once a clown with that name.
  8. Sir Alec Guinness, Colin Blakely and the cast of Little Lord Fauntleroy when they were filming. Leslie Philips, Patricia Routledge (Mrs Bouquet) Lesley Caron . All customers at La Buca when we were there. It was the dining place for the Theatre Royal. Alex Guiness and Colin Blakeley were fantastic, they just wanted quiet meals out of the way of prying eyes.
  9. I have a penfriend in Kentucky that Ive been writing for almost 60 yrs . We've met a couple of times and I love the way they talk there. So can imagine its very similar in Giorgia.
  10. Things are similar here but the language is formal or informal. Informal for friends and family and formal for politeness. Whenever my husband hears someone he doesn't know call him in an informal way it irritates him and asks if the person knows him as he doesn't know them. It doesnt bother me as in England even the queen is informal so to speak. I answer to formal and informal, but I do think its nice being extra polite using the formal way.

    suicide

So sad I also repeat other posts, what else can you say. Last year my step sisters daughter committed suicide. She was diagnosed as a child as being bi- polar. She was under medication and lived alone. She had apparently been saving her medication and other meds. Her parents knew that she'd attempted suicide in the past. I can't get my head round the fact that she wasn 't kept more under control, but thats me. It made me so angry. Last time I saw her was about 2/3 years ago and we spent the whole of the journey of 1/2 hr with her telling me that she was depressed. A signal to her mother w
  12. Fly those places that serve smoked salmon etc are called restaurants, the others are called fast food, street food and fill a gap food which go under the title of snack shops. LOL they all serve a purpose and depends on what you are hungry for. But too many spoil it for all. In the village where we live there are 11 so called restaurants. My son has one and there is another restaurant right opposite who specialise in weddings and large groups. My daughter has another one which is near to 2 bars that also are classed as restaurants. A pizzeria and others just outside the village who are
  13. Yes I agree Fly, dragging chairs on floors grates me too. I have a constant supply of felt pads to put on my chair legs. Wood against tiles....not a nice sound. Oh and have to change them regulary as my dog leaves a trail of fur everywhere she goes , so everytime the floor is washed out comes the pads. Otherwise its the fur stopping the noise instead of the pads.
  14. Getting ready to think what can I have for lunch(12.45 here) and that, Catfan would just fit the bill. Ages since I had or made a steak 'n' ale pie. Now perhaps winters on its way it'll give me something to think about.
  15. I love going into a cafe or bar (here) for a coffee or breakfast but theres one thing I cant stand is costa or any other passing their cappuccino for a cappuccino. Whenever I go to my mums I always go into the cafes at the airport. I was forever disappointed with their coffees, then I discovered "flat white" whyever they called it that I'll never know but that is a cappuccino or the nearest thing. I found that what their interpretation of a cappuccino was very watery wherever I went. So I watched closely at what others were ordering and even how they make it. Now for me its always flat wh
  16. Thankyou Catfan he is lovely isn't he. I get excited every time he creeps into mums garden. Neighbours don't like it but Freddie knows when to come and go so he doesn't meet anyone. The other night he brought his mate with him but she scooted very quickly. Will post the pic of them
  17. This is Freddie my mums ever faithful pal who comes to wait for his supper every evening. He sits and waits until he's fed then eats and waits for seconds. Then he goes to sleep at the bottom of the garden. Here he is listening to us Waiting for supper
  18. The smell of italian coffee brewing before I get up. It reminds me of the first time I met my future inlaws as coffee was always made early morning.
  19. Loved all the terms of endearment used by you all. I have a sense of correctism unless I've been introduced to someone by their shortened name I always call them by their correct name. It doesn't feel right to me me to call them anything else. Even my son and daughter names I never shortened. I call my husband by the name he introduced himself to me because his name was unusual to me and it didn't seem quite right how I pronounced it. He calls me Ci ( pronounced Chee) don't ask why because I don't know. Its just an affectionate term. Much better than some mothers call their children " PULCE" w
  20. Yes I noticed that the simple things in life like tea and coffee cost in UK. Other things in comparison cost little. Here coffee cost €1.00 or €1.10 . cappuccino and croissant costs € 2.20 Cheaper than wetherspoons
  21. Oh dear what a shame pooh ear. Those are things that you cant replace. A few years ago I bought a very delicate necklace here in italy whilst on holiday. It was a transparant chain with a tiny diamond so worn it looked like a piercing. I had so many compliments for it that when my son was visiting his girlfriend I asked him to bring a few back. He did in small white packet which I promptly tucked away on the mantlepiece ? Afew days later I couldnt find them and weeks after I recalled throwing the small white bag away. It was so light that I never even remembered the necklaces ....a
  22. I am not quite up to date with all forums but Catfan hope everything goes well for you.

  24. As a child I went there. If I recall correctly the church higher up on Mansfield rd nearer to the Forest was being transferred to york st .It was right on the corner. Dont remember why. I must have been 8/9.
