  1. I've just read my post again and must apologies for the bad spelling and punctuation. It seems I'm getting worserer as I get olderer...
  2. I'd say that's an almost certainty. The newspaper are, like many jumping, on a bandwagon and showing what 'caring sharing' people they are, plus they're scared witless of the backlash if they are less than enthusiastic and dare to criticise by not singing from the same hymn sheet.
  3. I claim my five pounds, It's behind the TV, just showing a paw...
  4. A Probably the most blinkered view you have ever poster here Col. Back to 1979? surely you're joking. I take it the post I made that included mention of record inflation, wage restraints, IMF loans, three day weeks and devaluation. etc can be blithely glossed over as a bit of a blip then! To say Thatchers view of what was best for the country is distorted can’t be substantiated, it’s simply a mantra accepted by socialists who have no proof that her actions not in the national interest as she saw it. Post '79 the electorate must have agreed with her, Labour suffered the
  5. Whilst there may be local spontaneous protests there has to be, as Loppy says. an organisational element to bring so many out. Someone has to decide where and when but I have to say their motives are at times questionable and many seem to use a genuine and valid reason for protest to bring their own agenda...
  6. Looking at those facing the camera it's difficult to believe they are 2 metres apart but you were there so I'll have to take your word for it... Love the incongruity, " you lot stand in the rain and protest, we'll sit in a tent and make speeches". We all stand together brothers!!! providing of course it's not raining
  7. Don't know if it's just an urban legend but I always understood methylated spirit is clear and only colured bright purple to put people off drinking it...
  8. I have in my time been called Bigbrew. Brewbox and Brewbags, a name a certain gentleman of this parish thought he would use to insult me. My user name is simply one half and an element of my real surname....
  9. I noticed the pictures on the BBC of the protest meetings. "the majority wearing masks" said the write up. Perhaps someone should teach reporters to count, at best it was only 50%. I'm interest to see if the idiots have caused a spike
  10. The danger in situations such as Covid is people becoming inured. Like many things, wars, murders etc we see so much of it in the news and media it begins to lose it's impact, especially when you can't actually see the danger and we start to accept it as the status quo. Precautions will for a time be influenced by peer pressure, others wearing a mask make it easier for us accept and do the same. We are to an extent monkey see, monkey do but after a time people will relax and revert to 'normal' practices. The question is will it be too soon?
  11. At junior school we had a Mr Keys who was part of the ex-servicemen training scheme, apparently it was a popular way into teaching in the 50's. He was a gunner with bomber command and lost his legs in the war, his party piece was whacking his shins with a walking stick. One thing we quickly learned to do was ask "what it was like in the war sir" and that was it, sit back and chill out, he was off down memory lane for half an hour.
  12. Or from Wikipedia:- "The golliwog, golliwogg or golly is a fictional character created by Florence Kate Upton that appears in children's books in the late 19th century and usually depicted as a type of rag doll. It was reproduced, both by commercial and hobby toy-makers, as a children's toy called the "golliwog", a portmanteau of golly and polliwog,[1][2][3] and had great popularity in the UK and Australia into the 1970s. The doll is characterised by black skin, eyes rimmed in white, red lips and frizzy hair. Though home-made golliwogs were sometimes female, the golliwog was genera
  13. Quick, buy shares in sticky backed plastic...
  14. I supposed it had to come, face masks to be compulsory from the 15th on public transport... Make sure you got yours RR it probably applies to airplanes as well. Edit: It's face coverings not necessarily clinical masks and yes aircraft are included..
  15. Langley Mill have a problem with traffic at the moment due to idiots queuing for McDonalds. To make matters worse it's situated next to a traffic island so no room for a queue. Have you missed anything? yes and be glad you have!.
  16. Hmm, just to be clear, are we now talking about other than the NHS? Which govt funded business are we talking about, who are the associates and what were the alternatives? Whether it stinks or to what degree it is obvious rather depends on ones viewpoint and political propensity. I also think what you're saying can equally apply to any government, not just the Tories. Businesses exist to make money and they court and curry favour with the government of the day regardless of left or right leanings if they can see an advantage to do so.
  17. I've not been allowed out since it started apart from driving herself to the shops, I go the 'long' way round to put a bit of charge in the batteries and then have to stay in the car.. It's making me cranky to say the least and yesterday I rebelled and went out onto the patio to talk with my brother who looks after the plants etc. The resulting screaming match with herself left me in no doubt that she is taking isolation and social distancing somewhat more seriously than I am...
  18. I'm not suggesting a dictatorship of any sort and especially not a national socialist one. My point is the government is stuffed with talking heads, law degrees being the common denominator. I merely suggested that perhaps someone with a more analytical mind might be a better decision maker. Having gone back and read more I'm even more convinced of my view. Is it standard anthropological practice to try and become a witch doctor in order to challenge the status quo? I despair of people like him. The workers screwed and fiddled the system to the extent they operate
  19. Not really PP. I copied/adapted someone else's work but thanks for the compliment
  20. I ordered the paint in 500ml bottles, six different colours for £25 and a canvas I bought from Aldi pre covid. I'd always had an idea to try to paint but it became a never got aroundtuit. Top tip if you don't use a lot then big bottles are a waste, some of them had gone off and were not even opened. The colours are standard but basic and seem to cover OK. It helps I suppose that the canvas came pre gessoed (like I have a clue what that means), but it looks just like undercoat to me. I can't think of a Vettriano painting and his work is usually too explicit for me but I can s
  21. It's all me BK but I copied it from a picture I saw somewhere a long time ago. I'm really not happy with it. The umbrella is at the wrong angle for the wind direction and the cloak/coat is too flat. First time I've ever used a palette knife. The thing I found about acrylics is the speed it dries. Looking at various sites you can buy jallop to slow it down but I couldn't wait so went ahead anyway. Someone here said why no face, 'cos she's facing away from me.... and I can't do faces anyway..
  22. B K if you were boring me you would know about it. You're putting the wrong interpretation on my post. I said I'm bored and all the art talk had set thinking if I had a go what sort of mess would I make, You can see the results, kept me occupied for a hour so. It took me longer to clean up than it did to paint the pic... I'm bored again now.
  23. All this talk of art'n'stuff set me thinking and being bored off me t*ts came up with this. It's in acrylic and done using a palette knife. I have little imagination or natural creativity so this is a picture. of a picture.
  24. That would totally freak me out!
