katyjay 5,091
From the Nottinghamshire Archives, I have a booklet entitled Turning Back the Pages of Raleigh Cycles of Nottingham. The only things I can see with children in mind are a large tricycle and the Chopper. I really wouldn't call either one a toy.
TBI 2,351
I think Raleigh, as a manufacturer of adult cycles, were using the description 'toys' fairly loosely, referring to the small range of childrens' trikes and cycles etc. These were produced in large quantities. Don't forget the Chopper wasn't produced until the 70s, although they did a kid's Penny Farthing in the 60s.
The Pianoman 1,535
My 3 wheeled 'Winkie' was a Raleigh product. More a kids bike than a toy I would have thought
TBI 2,351
Possibly, don't forget the tiny trike with the pedals on the front wheels, made for kids about 3 years old.
Trickymicky 57
Signage used immediately prior to that one shown used to say Bicycles Mopeds Tricycles.
Happyinyork 0
Brought my first car from Sharpes. Vauxhall Cavalier. Think its Sainsburys now?
LizzieM 9,519
Sharpes is still there, next to Sainsburys Arnold. Might be called something else now though.
FLY2 10,109
Next to Macdonalds.
Cliff Ton 10,490
Didn't Sharpes combine with the Bulwell dealers New Crown? So the people next to Macdonalds are now called Pentagon, but had been New Crown Sharpes.
denshaw 2,877
Sharpes were on Mapperley top near Breckhill.

TBI 2,351
I can remember passing it often, on the 43 to and from Bulwell. I didn't know the name was Horace Rogers, but see he is mentioned in quite a few threads.

Cliff Ton 10,490
The Simca one has got me intrigued, because I can't think exactly where at Chapel Bar that dealer was. I'll bet if I ring the number, Ken Hicks won't be there.
LizzieM 9,519
I'd never even heard of Simca until I came across this advert.
