Merthyr Imp 729
Anyone over a certain age will remember when you could see these every day. Here's the same one in trouble at Mount Street.
Bubblewrap 3,815
Couldn't change a tyre now days like that.........................elf & safety
The Pianoman 1,535
The answer to the question in post # 521 is that Glyn Pickworth was driving the MGO Lodekka that ran off the road near Langley Mill and Eastwood GNR station. It wasn't his fault, you can read is own account on this website scroll down towards the bottom of the page. http://www.heanorhistory.org.uk/v2publictransport.html Thanks. The main reason I was interested in knowing who was driving the bus is that I have known one or two drivers who have had heart attacks while driving. One about the time that one crashed. Cliff Ton 10,467
I think this may have been posted before, but it deserves another mention. A brilliant collection of Nottingham bus photos. http://www.old-bus-photos.co.uk/wp-content/themes/Old-Bus-Photos/questions/nottingham_area_bus_photos.php
terence12 725
Cliff ton, #538, OTV 161, bus in your pic, drove that at bilborough depot on service 55 mansfield rd, valley rd, the boulevards to clifton, wonderful to see the lady again, thank you
firbeck 859
Some great colour photo's there, I note the red PMT double decker parked up with the MGO football buses at the Cattle Market. PMT, Potteries Motor Transport, Forest must have been playing Stoke City that day.
benjamin1945 16,160
Or Port Vale
firbeck 859
Unlikely, if that was in the 60's, as it looks to be, Port Vale were lurking around the third or fourth divisions while Forest were in the top flight.
benjamin1945 16,160
Could have been Cup tie firbeck!!!!!!!!!!
Merthyr Imp 729
A look at Port Vale's FA Cup and League Cup record shows they weren't drawn against Forest at any possible time when that photo could have been taken. Interestingly, they did play Notts away in the FA Cup 1970, but those Midland General vehicles would have been long gone by then. I suppose there's the possibility of a league match against Notts, but I imagine the caption to the photo is correct - I doubt there would have been two double decker-loads of Notts supporters in those days! DaveN 1,118
The bus presumably would have gone to the top of Churchfield Lane and then turned left at the top to go down St Peter's Gate to Skills' depot
Cliff Ton 10,467
....and then turned RIGHT, not left......
DaveN 1,118
Yes you're right Cliff Ton. I remember on the opposite corner to the Capitol was a sweet shop which over the years became a B & O shop but I don't know what it is thses days.
The Pianoman 1,535
I believe Skillys have still got a couple of those Bedford SB's. One I know they bought about 15 years ago for preservation and another they have had donkeys years, probably from new. Might even be the one pictured.
Guest
Anyone remember the two abandoned buses behind Skills shop on Alfreton Rd?
The Pianoman 1,535
Yes I remember them too
taxi ray 170
Dave N, The old B&O shop is now an employment agency.
Guest
Went to St. Augustines on Bowers Ave-the 31--50 that took me '70-'73 were they renowns? A big single concertina type door at front - always warm!!
The Pianoman 1,535
Just been past the old Capitol/B&O shop on the bus today. It looks unoccupied to me.
mercurydancer 1,104
Any photos of Camm's Collapsibles? They took us on field trips when I was at Bilborough College and did manage some unlikely inclines, even if we sometimes did have to get out and walk.
Merthyr Imp 729
Not second-hand from Barton is it? Can't quite make out the registration... Here's one of their double deckers - an AEC Bridgemaster originally with East Yorkshire. I don't know what it and the vehicle behind it were doing outside the Odeon, but what was showing there helps to date the photograph.
Merthyr Imp 729
This is the only other Camm's photo I've got to hand - a Bedford bought new by them. It was unusual to see one at Huntingdon Street, and this was on hire to Skill's for their East Bridgford service.
catfan 14,793
Blimey, Camm's actually bought a new bus ! They were normally well past their "Sell By" date when they bought em !
taxi ray 170
What happened to Camms? I remember fetching a few scrap coach bodies from there in the early 80s. Pat Camm was a hoarder of old parts, everything of any use had been stripped out. They had a shop on Ilkeston road at one time.
