  1. The furore over this annoys me. There's nothing illegal about it, nothing advocating violence, it's a simple statement - white lives matter. Those who are pontificating and displaying their outrage and claiming the moral high ground need to think about the ramifications of denying peoples right to voice their opinion .

  3. It is perfectly acceptable & even encouraged to say "black lives matter." But not acceptable & even borderline illegal to say "white lives matter." So I include everyone from deepest black to lightest white, & anyone in between & say "grey lives matter." I'll either please everyone, or offend everyone, at least it's equal - I think...

  4. You’re too young to remember her RR. She was quite prominent on Clive James shows in the 1980s, such a more gentle era.

  5. We had an outside loo, and to add insult we also had a tin bath. The loo was in our back yard, there were 10 houses in the yard but each of us had a seperate loo. Every Saturday mum would scrub the loo which had a wooden seat, we had real toilet rolls, Not San Izel and not news paper on a nail but real toilet rolls even pink ones. The beauty of the wooden seat was in winter it was warm to your bum. Now in winter pipes would freez so dad would place a lit candle on a saucer, beleave it or not it worked. Unless it was windy (not the wind your thinking of) then the candle went out and it was luc

  6. Well, look at that. My memory is not playing me up! Thanks Phil! I hadn't thought about that for years and just remembered it when thinking about the house when I was a child. Most people had coal fires then and that was the only place I ever encountered coke fires.

  7. Yes, there was a nasty flu in the late fifties. I was still in school but managed to avoid it.

  8. We weren’t on mains drainage in Bleasby in 1962. We had a septic tank. It functioned perfectly and never required pumping out. It wasn’t until the 80’s that mains drainage came to the village and we were the last house on the lane to get it. I think there was a nominal connection fee of £50. Being over 100 yards from the lane our hook up cost was extremely good value. All the properties further along the lane have septic tanks but I never hear of any problems. The tanks act as a mini sewerage works with water coming out of the drain and the sewage decomposing through bacteriological action. Ma

  9. It can be instantaneous LL. The U.S. military has an 'Active Denial System' that uses radio waves to produce an intolerable heating effect in anyone caught in the beam. It uses a frequency only slightly higher than the top end of the 5G spectrum though the present 5G handsets are nowhere near this limit. I think it has been deployed in Afghanistan.

  10. Someone is taking a risk, thought Boris had told everyone to be careful. Maybe the hand gel isn't in a prominent position and the many who are wearing masks are being sensible, that's probably why our numbers are decreasing . I cannot understand why people are so flippant , we cant all be so "lucky "

  11. Yesterday I was feeling right fed up, I think it’s because we’ve endured 3 months of staying home and only been out of the house for grocery shopping and a walk with the dog. I decided I needed therapy ..... retail therapy. I walked into Nottingham, it’s mainly downhill from home, had a wander around, bought a few things and walked back (uphill) home. Clocked up more than 10,000 steps and It did me a power of good. Today I’d planned on a bit of washing, cleaning and tidying up but I’d completely forgotten that we’d got a Zoom meeting booked with our Financial Advisor. At the same time o

  12. Just spent 2 hrs ironing with music from the 50's. Time passed so quickly. Some of the songs I recognized with the first note but others had to Shazam them because I couldn't remember what the song was or the singer. Well it has been 60 + yrs. Lunch now and swim this afternoon plus sunbathing. Taking opportunity before it storms again.

  13. Don't feel bad, col. I've been "over the hill" for quite a while now. We had a thunderstorm. Went and dog dozed in me bed anyway.

  14. Bit of good news from Russia. International flights permitted from early July. She still needs a visa but the quickest is an automated visitor visa system that could be done online ( You have no idea how difficult it was to get visas for her some years ago) so the turnaround time for the visa is about 6 weeks. Should get her over here for late August. Considering that I last saw her on 2 March, that is a long time. I'll get her back. Flights still remain very cheap - £55 from Moscow standard class with airmiles.

  15. I'm afraid you might find Goose Fair is cancelled due to the possible demonstrations declaring it to be 'Goosist'.....half the local population calling each other 'Duck!' hasn't helped.
