  1. RR you have a very cavalier outlook to Covid as we all know, but telling people to look after themselves is a bit like Marie Antoinette’s attitude to the peasantry. A surprisingly right wing “!’m alright” philosophy for a Labour voter. To act like ‘Jack-the-Lad’, have a devil may care, disparaging and somewhat aggressive attitude is fine if we’re all the same, but we’re not. Many are older, not as fit as once they were, and highly vulnerable to serious complications should Covid strike. You have good health and long may it continue, but try to have a little more e

  3. You don't have to go out into space to find a great attractor, of course. Planet Earth has it's very own @benjamin1945

  4. Further to the comments up-thread about the great void in space where there's nowt there, there's a thing called the Great attractor in the Virgo & Hydra-Centaurus super-clusters that's pulling everything towards it. It lies about 150 - 250 million light years from the Milky Way, which is it's self being pulled towards it. The boffins have zero idea what the Great Attractor is, but it must have lots & lots & lots of mass. I suspect it could be a super gigantic mega massive black hole. Problem is it lies behind the central bulge of the Milky Way, so the Great Attractor can't be dire

  5. It's no mystery Jim. Mostly he's just a PFM member with good taste. (He uses the same model of phono cartridge as me. ) Earlier in the more dramatic phases of the pandemic he was providing not only statistics, but more analysis than we were getting from for e.g., The Beeb. He's probably getting fed up now, but he is still providing daily figures, which the BBC et.al. are not..so it's just a useful bit of info which I decided to put up here, for those who are interested. Saves hunting down the figures. Maybe also as a little reminder to the disinterested/cynical ..th

  7. I don't know gavreid, in fact I've never heard of him. The figures quoted are a simple repeat of Gov figures, and I'm at a loss to see his point.

  8. You always have to spoil it Red. I agree, we don't need a Monkey Pox thread because it is rarely fatal, not new, quite difficult to catch... but also not especially funny. Naturally, as with most things even remotely related to Covid, your assessment of Gav Reid is way wide of the mark. I have a question for you. If you are so keen on people taking responsibility for their own health, why are you so dismissive of people keeping up their vaccine protection and observing other basic common sense measures? And an observation. Your 'Plumber Mate'

  10. Yep Nonna. I missed out the bit about how I don't usually have breakfast but I had a big bowl of Shreddies an hour before going to the dentist. The tooth didn't come out without a fight, but a knee on the chest wasn't necessary. Anaesthetic wearing off now but not too sore. Can have a drink in an hour or so...Fancy a cup of tea.

  12. Polly Brown went on to form a duo called Sweet Dreams with a chap called Tony Jackson. One result was this photograph... Since this appeared before I'd ever heard the term 'cultural appropriation'.. I'll err on the side of charity and just ask 'what was she thinking?'

  15. On Sunday we had a car rally in the village. They all met very early and one by one they set off. Our road wasn’t closed off but at the corner were the marshals directing straight up the road. We only live 200 m from the corner and it’s a narrow country road, we have space outside the gates for maybe 6 cars so fans of rallies decided to park their cars outside our gates leaving us very little space to get out. We did manage then put notices no parking and the odd paving brick to stop them. This morning driving out from home I pass a short cut which can be the joy of ralliers, up down dips and
