  1. Very sad. I’m sure I saw recently that he was touring this year. Whenever I hear ‘Make Me Smile’ I’m reminded of a funeral of one of our employees, aged only 52 (20 years ago) who was so well known and liked, certainly in our industry. There was a massive funeral in Sedgefield Parish Church, followed by a cremation. His wife was on the wacky baccy outside the Crematorium and had to be gently encouraged to follow the coffin into the building, followed by all the other mourners. She went dancing in, waving her arms about and singing to the sound of Steve Harley’s ‘Make Me Smile’ that was b

  2. I have had a sleeping bag and gas cooker in my shed for years, I find it a great hiding place when chores need to be done. In fact I find it very relaxing in there, I cannot wait till summer so I can spend more time in there , I did consider putting a window in there but some one would be able to see into it and find me, I feel safe in there as I lock it from the inside.

  5. I have the concrete base of an old greenhouse next to my sheds (yes I have two). I’ve been contemplating for a long time of erecting a shed which I could turn into a cosy saloon bar with padded benches and a roaring log fire. No longer would I have to go down to the local and mix with the people of the village. It’s just a pipe dream at the moment but I am interviewing for barmaids.

  11. I’m pleased to say that the lake has finally gone from the end of the field. I’ve just been down on the quad to inspect it. It’s a brown patch but not muddy. The first plants springing up are buttercups but it looks like it’s going to recover and there should be another crop of hay in the summer. There’s no ‘open gardens’ in the village this year so we won’t have naturists viewing the wild flowers. Should that be naturalists?

  17. The Woodlark was kept by a more distant relative in the early years of the twentieth century. My mother recalled trips over to Lambley on summer evenings when she was a child when all the men would wander over to The Woodlark for a drink. It was their favourite hostelry. I remember going to The Robin Hood to give a local history talk some years ago. I was presented with a framed photo of the pub, taken around 1905. In the doorway is my great great uncle who took over the hostelry from his father around that time. Pure coincidence. No one knew he was a member of my family.
